Daily Inspiration: Meet Jenn Wickers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Wickers.

Hi Jenn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Jenn—the owner of Jenny Ann Photography and the girl behind the camera. My photography journey started back in high school with film. I fell in love with the process—rolling my own film, wandering the city for shots, and spending hours in the darkroom bringing those images to life. I was especially drawn to landscapes and architecture. Ansel Adams was my favorite at the time—his black and white work inspired me so much.

Life moved forward—I met the love of my life, got married, and became a mom. My camera took a back seat while I focused on my family. Years later, my world shifted when my daddy passed away after a short but brutal battle with cancer. He was so dear to my heart (we were a lot alike), and losing him shattered me. I wasn’t sure how to grieve or how to move forward.

As I looked through my favorite photos of him—especially my wedding photos—I felt this pull to pick my camera back up. At first, photography became a way to process my grief and keep my mind busy. But as soon as I started shooting again, I remembered how much I loved it. The cameras had changed, but the magic was still the same—I still understood how light, timing, and emotion come together to create something beautiful.

Within weeks of getting my new camera, friends started asking me to take their photos. I took an incredible trip to Alaska and captured its beauty. I even landed a job at Mercedes-Benz Stadium shooting events for local sports teams (thanks to Dani for opening that door). Honestly, I know that was God’s work—there’s no way I could have advanced so quickly without a little help from above. A part of me likes to think Daddy was guiding me toward where I was meant to be.

Nine months after buying my first mirrorless camera, I booked my first wedding. I was nervous but so excited. The couple knew I was just starting out but trusted me to capture their most important day. That’s when it clicked—this was my passion. From that wedding on, I was hooked.

Today, after almost two years in business, I feel in my heart that this is exactly where I belong. I get to give couples the kind of photos they’ll cherish forever—the same way I cherish the photos from my own wedding, especially the ones of my dad. Who would have ever thought that such a tragedy would turn out to be so beautiful!

Most people say they “have to” work. I say I get to work. It’s such an honor to be chosen to capture these intimate, once-in-a-lifetime moments. And for that, I’m forever grateful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The only real struggles I have had in this journey is learning the technology and business side. I have no business background so I have been having to teach myself most things. I have had a few mentors that have been absolutely amazing too!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve completely fallen in love with wedding photography. I’m a feeler by nature, and I think that plays a big part in how I’m able to capture such raw, real emotion in my images. I genuinely love people, and I’m all about helping them feel beautiful—not just in general, but especially in front of the camera.

I truly believe that my personality allows me to connect with my couples on a deeper level. I’m not just there to take your pictures—I’m there to create a friendship, bring emotion into the experience, and lift you up. Confidence doesn’t always come easy, and that’s okay. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, celebrated, and at your best—and then capture that.

I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come in such a short time, and even more grateful for the relationships I’ve built along the way.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking risks can be scary, but they can also change everything. I’ve never been much of a risk taker, but this photography journey has been full of them—and I truly believe that’s part of why it’s been so successful.

It started when my husband sold his truck so I could buy my first camera. That was a huge leap for us. Once things started picking up, I began taking on jobs that I wasn’t completely confident in at the time. I was always upfront with my clients about my experience, but I knew the only way to grow was to say “yes” and figure it out.

I never expected this to take off the way it did, but I took the chance—and I’m so grateful I did. You really never know how far you can go until you take the risk to find out.
