Art & Life with Luke Dockery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Dockery.

Luke, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve always had a knack for entertaining. Whether I was playing ball on the field or spending time with family, one could rest assured that most of my efforts would be spent trying to make my teammates laugh or make my sisters smile. I discovered dancing to be the perfect way for me to express myself and entertain others. Around age 10, I allowed dance to become my priority and began competing, attending national conventions, and taking every opportunity to dance whether it be for fun or professionally. Now almost 18, I’ve expanded my work to acting, modeling, teaching, and other creative projects and I plan to continue to push myself as an artist.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I aim to create and express myself in whatever medium is available to me: dance, film, concept videos, and anything else that can leave a positive effect on an audience. I’m an avid movie-watcher (especially old films or Disney movies) and music-listener, so I mainly just try to open myself up to be inspired by those things and by the world around me.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?

Life for artists has shifted in both ways. Social media provides a large platform for artists to be discovered, so in some ways there’s a lot of freedom for artists to market themselves however they like. However, because the platform is so large, it can be even more difficult and unpredictable in terms of getting content to reach a desired audience. And because our content is so accessible, it can sometimes lead to under-compensation or over-sharing of an individual’s ideas. It can go either way so easily.
