Brandi Little of Buckhead on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Brandi Little shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Brandi , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle of aging. I’m so thankful for the wisdom and knowledge I’ve gained over the years, but to be quite honest it’s hard for me to accept that I’m growing older. That the bartender isn’t asking for my id or that some phrases or slang I know nothing about. My industry is all about beauty and youthfulness, and I don’t want to be a slave to my younger self. The music and art I’m creating is the best I’ve ever created, my confidence in myself and my abilities are high. It’s just the number that is hard for me to accept. Speaking about it and connecting with others who may be feeling the same way has helped me tremendously.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a lover of the arts, from music, writing and film. I am a singer and national recording artist. I’m a motivational speaker and the “hope dealer”. I’ve been gifted the blessing of song, I have a unique gift of creating songs without writing down lyrics. What many would call a freestyle in the rap game, I do that with singing.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks bonds in most connections is lack of respect, jealousy and lies. Once someone you love or care for deeply breaks that trust it’s hard to feel safe or seen with them again.

What mends those bonds and brings them back together is grace and mercy. Having compassion and accepting that no one human is perfect. Being able to forgive and moved forward without record of wrong doing.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Music was my safety net as a child. Sometimes I would watch Annie just for the musical scenes, or even the Wizard of Oz. Once I discovered how to record the radio with my cassette player I was hooked, I would read the lyrics and connect to my favorite songs, I would cry, I would laugh and I would dream. Music helped me go to a place I could only see in my dreams.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That there is a time limit on success. That you have to be certain size or age to make it and if you’re past 40 it’s over. That’s the biggest lie and I love that artist like Jelly Roll are setting the new standards for our industry.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. I am living in my calling and it shows daily. I’m constantly being reminded I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
