We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Tommy Tally and have shared our conversation below.
Tommy, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My typical day consists of getting up early before my family is awake to exercise followed by getting my sons ready for the day. After that I get to work and prepare for clinic, answering emails, completing notes and any other managerial duties I have. After I am done with clinic I get home and spend time with my family.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a double board certified foot & ankle surgeon. I completed my comprehensive surgical training at Emory Decatur Hospital in 2019. While in residency I was extensively and thoroughly trained in forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive surgery, trauma, Diabetic wound care/limb salvage, lower extremity infections, pediatric foot deformities, and biomechanics.
I started my practice, Suwanee Foot and Ankle Specialists, in 2021 with a mission dedicated to returning patients to a day free of pain and discomfort due to foot or ankle issues. My expertise regarding the foot and ankle is what I have dedicated my life to and I work diligently every day to assist and treat our patients.
We are a family owned medical practice with no large group affiliation, which is rare these days. This allows me the freedom to tailor care for each and every patient that I see. We strive to provide exceptional care, compassion, and a welcoming experience for our patients
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My Mom and Dad taught me that hard work pays off constantly when I was growing up. They pushed me to do my best each and every day in everything that I do. They instilled in me the drive to focus on a goal, diligently work towards it, and with perseverance and discipline you can achieve that goal.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I wouldn’t say a fear has held me back, but more so provided me the drive to reduce the risk of failing as much as possible. My biggest fear would be to fail in my goals or let my family down. Because of this fear, I work daily to avoid this from happening. I use my fear as my driving force to achieve my goals for my patients and family.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A medical cultural value that I protect at all costs is do no harm. I treat each and every patient individually and see them as someone who comes to me trying to improve their life. Whether they are unable to exercise, play with their children, or work comfortably due to their ailment I put my best foot forward every time I walk into the room with the patient.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in 2 areas of my life. One is after a long surgery day that I have been planning and thinking about for weeks. After I have completed 4-5 surgeries and I know I just improved multiple patient’s lives for the better, that brings me peace. The second is after a long work week spending time on the weekends with my family. We enjoy going for walks in the morning and while I’m pushing my sons in their stroller and my wife and I are enjoying each others conversation, that is when I am at peace in a personal sense.
