Kobiya Ferguson’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kobiya Ferguson . Check out our conversation below.

Kobiya , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me begins with prayer, just 5 to 7 quiet minutes to ground myself before stepping into the world. From there, I flow into my 10-minute skincare routine, a routine I never skip. If the weather is nice, I head out for a 35–40 minute walk, letting the movement set the tone for my day. Most mornings, I’m off to work soon after, but on those rare slow mornings when I’m off or start later, I savor every second. Those are the mornings I truly cherish.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kobiya Ferguson, and I’m a professional braider, licensed esthetician, content creator, and soon-to-be real estate agent. I’ve always been passionate about beauty, creativity, and helping people feel their best whether that’s through a fresh style, glowing skin, or capturing moments through content.

Right now, I’m also finishing my Marketing degree, which I know will take everything I do to the next level. What makes my journey unique is that I don’t box myself into one lane, I’m building in beauty, business, and real estate, and I love showing others that it’s possible to create your own path. I’m currently working on launching my own braiding hair line and growing my beauty and digital brands into a six-figure business. At the heart of it all, my goal is simple: to create experiences and opportunities that inspire people to look good, feel good, and go after more.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me the most about work are my mom and my grandma. Just watching them both, I learned that working to provide and taking pride in your efforts means so much. My mom is known to be a workaholic—it’s like she had 10 kids but only one! She never asked for anything, and I never wanted for anything, and her drive influenced the hustle mentality I carry today.

My grandma worked up until COVID. Before then, just seeing her get up every morning, drink her coffee, and make sure the house was clean, day in and day out, five days a week, well into her late 70s was amazing. Their dedication and consistency taught me that work isn’t just about making a living; it’s about showing up, being disciplined, and leaving a legacy.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“You’re becoming everything you said you would.”

As a 5th grader, I told people I wanted to go to school to become a cosmetologist, and by 6th grade, I added that I wanted to go to college and major in business management. For some, it was surprising to hear someone so young speak with such a clear plan. I know without a doubt that my younger self would be proud of how far I’ve come.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Smart people often get it wrong by listening to advice from people who have never walked the path they’re on. It’s easy to assume that wisdom comes from anyone who sounds confident, but if that person hasn’t experienced what you’re striving for, their advice can actually hold you back. Sometimes the most well-meaning guidance ends up being discouraging simply because it’s not rooted in your reality.

I’ve learned that not every journey is meant to be shared, and not everyone will understand the vision you’re chasing. Some roads require you to trust yourself, block out the outside noise, and keep moving forward even when others don’t see the bigger picture. That’s where true growth and clarity come from.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in two different spaces. Part of me finds peace when I’m alone, fully locked in on my craft and business. There’s something calming about being in my own zone, creating, planning, and building toward my goals. The other part of me feels at peace when I’m surrounded by family and friends, laughing, good vibes, and moments that remind me what life is really about. For me, peace comes from that balance having the solitude to pour into myself and my dreams, and the connection that comes from being with the people I love.
