Julian Clove shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Julian, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time very often actually. I feel like im mentaly trapped between “You can’t get time back, use it wisely” and “time is a contruct, I’m right where I need to be. That paired with ADD and a scrolling problem makes it easy to lose track of time. What usually reels me back into the present moment is slowing down, and taking a moment to observe something very small; could be a bug, an icon on a resturant, a crack in hte stone, or the smallest branch on a nearby tree that anyone would miss. They tent to be very beautiful once you pay attention. Just a moment of that and a bit of self talk usually keeps me centered. We aren’t designed as humans to live in the present moment, but anything I can do to raise my own awareness helps in the long run.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Julian Clove, and I started my animation company called Clove Vision back in 2019 when I graduated college. I’ve always been obsessed with cartoons, so It only made sense for me to make it my career! I specialize in 2D frame-by-frame animation, and comedy, like the nostalgic ones you would see on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. As of now, I’m independent, freelaning and creating content on socials while its hot, but my goal is my own Network like Disney Channel, where we will showcase animations and stories made by other independent writers and aritst that didn’t quite “make the cut”. I strive to personally bring back those nostalgic cartoons that made people excited every Saturday, not just for children but everyone! I’m in the beginning stages but now now, Stay Tuned!!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of my that had something to prove to everyone, that got bullies for being quite and drawing cartoons in my little corner died long ago. I feel like once you’ve found your purpose, it’s not for you anymore, it’s an act of service, a labor of love. All of the support I receive on videos that I created but at the time, didn’t see much growth from reminded me that I am an artist, and artists are designed not to consume, but create and share. Millions on people laugh at videos I worked hard on. I always thought they were hilarious at first but towards the end of the process, I never wanted to see the video again, because I would mentally point out all of the flaws, meanwhile, it made people’s day.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
Recently, a friend hit me for a favor that was supper put of scope. I used to have an issue setting boundaries, I would do almost anything anyone told me. This time I said no, but I thought about all of the times he helped me when I really needed it, so I was honest about my feelings and worked something out, I know that sounds pretty elementery but I say that to say this: Community comes with inconvinience sometimes. You cant expect to have a village and not be a villager. I try to show up for people the same way they show up for me, ecpecially if they support my work, I’ll support yours!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The “real me” is a work in progress. I just show up and be kind and undertanding to people, as to do my part to create a better world around me, but even sometimes that means being a little mean, I’ve learned. Setting real boundaries and protecting my space is key, expecailly given everything happening in the world, but I still try to be kind and open-minded.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop scrolling, and vspend as much time with my family and friends. No social media, Drugs, or anything that would dim my experience .
