Ronald Sullivan of Metro Atlanta on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Ronald Sullivan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Ronald, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
It’s a very fascinating and rewarding exercise to go through old photographs and documents and see all the people, things, places and experiences I’ve encountered over the course of decades. As I view these windows into times past I realize that I’ve been blessed with a rich journey of learning and maturing. The distinctly different cultures and peoples I’ve been exposed to as a result of having lived in four different countries and visited numerous others, has taught me the value of diversity, of an open mind, and the desire to always learn from other human experiences that are quite different from mine. So it is often in these times of reflection and remembrance that I lose track of time… only to find myself, again!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Ronald Sullivan. I’m a sculptor residing the metro Atlanta area, and working in wood and stone. My art is marketed under the brand ‘Dance Hill Collection’.

I take delight in transforming raw material into something that seeks to challenge the viewer to consider if there is something beyond the visual surface or materiality of the object. So it’s not just a matter of wondering about how the material was fashioned, constructed, or finished, but more importantly, it’s a matter of how this particular piece of sculpture resonates (or not!) with the viewer’s psyche, personality, and experiences, perhaps even with their hopes, fears and joy!

I enjoy incorporating themes such as balance, spirituality, family, nurture and completeness in many of my pieces.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents! My mother and father were excellent role models in this regard.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, but it’s personal!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Truthfulness, integrity and respect for other.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’ve done the best that I can… and God knows it!
