We’re looking forward to introducing you to Willie D Davis IV. Check out our conversation below.
Willie D, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
When have I felt most loved? Recently. within the past 5 months. After so many one way and dead end relationships, I finally found someone that not only brings me joy but makes me happy. We met officially at an acting class. We had been seeing each other in passing and at various events but never really introduced ourselves. One day at an acting class, Tameka was there helping the caterer set up and I had a chance to not only help her but to talk to her and she was so well-spoken as well as beautiful. Some time after that, I looked her up on Facebook and saw a couple of her videos. One that made me laugh and one that showed me her serious side. After that, we saw each other at a networking event that I was performing at and then at another acting class. This time, I got to give her a ride home and we talked and talked and talked. We’ve been together ever since. Tameka makes me feel a love that I hadn’t felt or experienced in a long time. As far as deserving it, I could say “yes” but to me that would be a bit egotistical but I will say that I feel that I’ve earned the happiness that I feel and enjoy when we’re together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Willie D. Davis, IV and I’m what you may call a renaissance man. I’m an Actor, Author, Recording Artist, Speaker, etc. I own my own company called KUUNTAAR MUSIC, LLC which is the parent company for ANX Records, Mediantix Films and Photography, Wille Dell Davis IV, LLC and TBC Cleaning Services. KUUNTAAR Music was started in 1999 and has branched off in the years past to the other sideline businesses. I’ve appeared in Film, TV and onstage in everything from Stage plays to movies to voice-overs. I just finished filming a few things this year such as “A Friend In Me”, “Living In the Cemetery” “Last Words” and “Atlanta’s Ugly to which I have been one of the main characters for a while now. I’m an Author of 6 books and an Artist of 9 albums and a slew of singles having just released two singles in August. My music name is NXICON which stands for No eXcuses I Can Overcome Negativity. I’m originally from Michigan and have been in Atlanta ever since 1999 and have enjoyed every minute and experience of it.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say Mary Ellen Perez. She always treated me like one of her own in virtually every way. Mary Ellen, Gilbert, Julie, Kelly, Chevo and Darcy Barragan, that whole family made me see that i had worth and value. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would be the person that I am today. They saw something in me and believed that I could be more than just some ghetto kid. Even tho, Mary Ellen has passed on, her spirit and things she she taught and showed me continue to stick with me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that no matter how hard it is, no matter how hard that you fall, you have to get back up. You can’t just lay there and do nothing. Suffering taught to look at different ways of a situation because every situation does have a resolution. Even if we don’t like it. Suffering if faced in the correct way and correct mind-state does eventually lead to success. It’s the scenic route to that. Too many of get right within the finish line of our suffering and simply quit when that’s the time to put everything into crossing it. We listen to others tell us what we can or can’t do and we haven’t even made the first attempt to see if we can. Failing is not failure. Not trying is the failure. Sometimes you have to suffer, you have to go thru somethings to understand that YOU ARE YOUR POWER and no one is no matter they want to convince us that they are. In the words of DMX, “See, to live, is to suffer But to survive, well That’s to find meaning in the suffer.”-Slippin’
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version and the real version are one and the same. I can’t be any other way without not being true to myself. I’m not flawless. I’m not perfect. But I’m real. No matter what the cost. No matter what the situation. I see no reason to change who I am to benefit someone else because at the end, it doesn’t benefit me. I’m an observer first. So before I say or do anything, I’m analyzing everything! Sometimes , I tend to OVER analyze but that’s me. I think. I calculate. That will always be me and my nature.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m either writing, performing or recording. Those are my personal, quiet times and zones to get everything and anything out of my system, creatively. Positively. I can everything I’m feeling into a poem or a song and feel relieved and released from that energy. I feel at peace when I’m with Tameka, the Lady in my life because she makes my spirit at ease and at peace just by her presence. She sees me for who I am and not who I’m not and she pulls no punches with nor does she take any mess from me. She makes me laugh and smile and honored to have her in my life.
