Story & Lesson Highlights with Ezy Waddell of Conley

We recently had the chance to connect with Ezy Waddell and have shared our conversation below.

Ezy, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
That’s a great question, and to respond, I’d have to say, absolutely. We live in a world of instant gratification and delayed patience. It seems that the mere idea of patience is becoming nonexistent. I’ve always learned that anything worth having would take time, and if it didn’t take time, it wasn’t worth having. While some clichés have loopholes, I’ve found this to be primarily true because most things that I acquired quickly didn’t last. Sometimes, when faced with a situation—whether dire or not—making a hasty decision could also mean making an ill-informed one. Often, the decision made after careful consideration stands the test of time.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ezy Waddell of Connect Squad Entertainment, and I am healthy, wealthy, well-rested, and at peace. I’m a sail to the breeze, moving with ease, doing what I please, and bringing the world to its knees. Connect Squad Entertainment—the brand—is built on the theory of six degrees of separation, which expresses, and I’m paraphrasing, that anything one wants is six degrees away. Connect Squad Entertainment also embodies the undying spirit of the determined artist and acts as a safe space for creativity.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been—the one who wanted to march to the beat of his own drum. I’ve always been independent. I’ve always been headstrong and hardheaded. I’ve always been the one who desired to articulate. Growing up, one of the worst feelings was wanting to express something and not being able to. So, I developed and cultivated the ability to express myself vividly. It’s like reaching to scratch an itch, and you’re always a millimeter away from that exact spot that’s itching. So, I learned how to be more precise, and that translated into my music as well.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
People don’t care when you’re suffering, and especially when people don’t see your vision, you get overlooked. No one wants to get into a car that’s not moving. You can tell the people around you that you worked on the transmission yesterday, and I’m on the engine now — just finished the engine, and now I’m rebuilding the alternator. They don’t care because the car still isn’t moving. Most people don’t care about the work in progress, but when you get that car rolling, you might have some people rolling with you.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
My mother gave me this quote, and I think it’s one of the most powerful things she’s said to me to date. That quote goes as such: *Do the best you can, and when you know better, you do better.* I think we have a tendency to impose what we think other people are capable of on them, without taking into consideration what they may be experiencing. I don’t know how you see me because I’m not sitting where you’re sitting, so I don’t know what you see — life experience factors into that, and no two people have the same life experience. So, it’s not my place to judge an individual on what they should be doing because I don’t know what battles they’re fighting. I think everyone is doing their best until they know better.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I did my best to be there for the people I cared for, and if I couldn’t be there physically, I wanted you to reach out so we could have a conversation. I’d advise you to the best of my ability, and I didn’t keep myself to myself; I would listen with an ear of diplomacy and respond with honesty.
