We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tiffany Portis. Check out our conversation below.
Tiffany, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts in the morning listening to affirmations /stoic lessons on YouTube to set the tone for the day. After that, I focus on getting my kids prepared for school, my daughter heads out to high school while my son logs in for homeschool, which I help him manage throughout the day.
From there, I transition into my corporate job, which I balance alongside my mom duties. Depending on the day, I may also have bookings at my creative studio, The LocationATL. When that happens, I’m splitting my time between managing the studio, helping clients, doing my work-from-home corporate responsibilities, and keeping up with my son’s homeschool lessons.
So overall, my days are a mix of being a mom, a professional in corporate America, and a business owner, constantly switching hats, but keeping everything moving forward.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am single mom, a business owner, and a professional still working in corporate America. I am also a woman who has overcome many obstacles. As a survivor of domestic violence, I know what it feels like to have my voice silenced, and that is why I am so passionate about creating spaces where others can freely express themselves.
Stepping out on faith, I founded The Location ATL, a 24-hour creative studio built for individuals who want to speak, share, and create without limits. Whether it’s through podcasts, photography, or other creative projects, I wanted to build an atmosphere where people feel comfortable, inspired, and supported to tell their stories and showcase their talents.
What makes The Location ATL unique is that we honor creativity in all its forms. We understand that your creative flow might not look like anyone else’s and that’s the beauty of it. When you walk through our doors, the space becomes your space. It’s not about our brand, but about how our space empowers your brand. At The Location ATL, there are no limits just room to create, grow, and let your voice be heard.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would absolutely have to say my sister. She saw me clearly before I could even see myself. She has always been my go to person, the one who reminds me of who I am and speaks life into me when I need it most.
My sister isn’t just my sister; she raised me. She is like a mother to me, and in so many ways. She has always believed in me, even in the moments when I didn’t believe in myself. She sees the vision for where I am supposed to be, and she pushes me to reach that level.
She constantly reminds me that I am capable of anything I put my mind to. All I have to do is believe, manifest, and speak it into existence. And having someone like that in my life has been one of my greatest blessings.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds of my life have been surviving domestic violence and living through times when I felt my voice didn’t matter. Healing for me is a continuous process, it’s not something that happens overnight. I am still healing every single day from my trauma.
I am healing by learning to speak life into myself and by showing my children that you can overcome any obstacle your past does not dictate your future. I am also healing through the process of creating The Location ATL. Watching others step into their creativity, use their voices, and come out of their shells is healing for me too. It reminds me that you can absolutely do anything you put your mind to. For me, healing is about turning pain into purpose and proving to myself that my past does not limit my future.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is my kids. They know that I’m committed to giving my children a life where they feel protected, heard, and free to be their authentic selves without judgment. What matters most to me is making sure they always feel safe, and loved. My friends and my family know that above everything else, creating that sense of security and love for my kids is what drives me.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes, when it comes to The Location ATL, I absolutely feel that level of excitement. Every time I have clients, bookings, or events at the studio, it brings me so much joy. I love knowing that people have chosen my space, trusted me to help them record their podcast, or create their content.
What excites me most is when someone walks through the doors and lights up at the atmosphere, the energy, the look, the feel of the studio. Seeing their reaction and knowing they feel inspired in my space makes me proud and keeps me motivated in my career.
