We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nikita Thomas. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Nikita, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What battle are you avoiding?
Avoiding the battle of meal prep!! As much discipline as I have to make it to the gym 5 times a week, for the life of me I can’t mass prepare food . And as a restauranteur, that makes absolutely zero sense.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nikita Thomas, and at my core, I am an entrepreneur with an unshakable passion for healing. I own two businesses dedicated to helping people live healthier, more joyful lives: Rooted AF, a vegan restaurant recently recognized as the Best Vegan Restaurant in Delaware, and God’s Green EarthRX, a plant-based supplement company.
What sets us apart is our ability to bridge the gap in wellness. In today’s world, it can feel like we’re divided on almost everything—even health. There’s so much judgment, confusion, and separation around what’s “best.” But there’s one thing we can all agree on: we love food that tastes good, and we all want to feel our best.
That’s where we live as a brand—in that sweet spot where taste meets health. At Rooted AF, we bring people together over America’s favorites, like our “Best Damn Empanadas.” And through God’s Green EarthRX, we make wellness simple with powerful plant-based supplements like black seed oil capsules and soursop.
Our mission is to make wellness not only delicious, but also easy to incorporate into everyday life—and even easier to stay consistent with. Because when health feels good, we all win together.
Most recently, I released a book called, “Defeating Depression…Allegedly” on Amazon —the first in a series of short, powerful reads designed to help people overcome chronic illness. It’s filled with approachable explanations, practical guidance, and simple, delicious recipes. My goal is to take the mystery out of wellness, break it down in everyday language, and most importantly, empower people with the knowledge and tools to begin their own journey of healing.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe people make up their minds about who someone is—and then hold them there. They struggle to accept that people can grow, change, or even make choices outside the boundaries of the identity once assigned to them. What truly fractures a bond is not the change itself, but the absence of grace—the inability to love without conditions or to evolve alongside one another.
The reality is, people are forever changing. And at certain stages of life, there’s a profound shift—a moment when many decide they no longer wish to live under the weight of others’ opinions. The only thing that has the power to restore those bonds is acceptance and grace on everyone’s behalf. We must be willing to honor who someone is becoming or even the person that they’ve always been but never felt safe enough to reveal.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I wouldn’t say I live in fear, but when I really stop and think about it, I realize there are things I dream of doing that I’m not doing right now. If you asked me, “What would you be doing if failure wasn’t possible?”—my answer would be somewhat different from my reality today. That tells me something. It means, on some level, I am being held back—by the fear of failure and by the uncertainty of not knowing the exact roadmap to my destination. And those two forces, if I let them, will keep me from the very things I want most. The truth is, it’s not a lack of ability, it’s not a lack of opportunity—it’s the fear and the doubt. And the moment I stop letting those control me is the moment I take back my power and step into the life I was meant to create.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
This perhaps is the easiest of the questions. They’d unequivocally say my two dogs Jezebel and Griselda, my mom, honesty, peace of mind, and all things black. Black equity, black business, black wellness, black lives, black women, black culture, black history, and the future of blackness.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I like to believe I have a deep understanding for human beings. And by choice, I meet them with understanding and grace. One thing we all could stand to be, is a little better at communing with people who don’t believe, look, or act like us. And in most cases, I believe that is a result of the lack of self-acceptance. People tend to project their insecurities onto others.
I also understand that most things—people, relationships, moments—are temporary. That awareness drives me to value the present, to appreciate what is instead of the idea or possibility of a person. And no matter how something ends—whether it lasts a moment or decades—I’ve trained my mind to hold on to the good. Because when you love human beings the way I truly do, you have to accept this truth: we are flawed, and at some point, we will hurt one another. It is inevitable. We just have to try to make sure we find more people that are worthy of staying.
