Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Jackson.
Hi Chuck, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Chuck lived in Florida since the age of 5. In fact, he still remembers his kindergarten teacher, Ms. Ortega in Jacksonville, FL. Living there for most of his formative years, as a teenager, his family moved to Tampa, FL where he lived until 2023.
Among other things, Chuck immersed himself into photography as an amateur in 1993 using 35mm film SLRs. As his skills increased, his art form also evolved into the modern digital photography era. A talented professional, Chuck provides his clients with imagery that genuinely captures the beauty and essence of his subjects. “Life, Love, Art, and Adventure” are the driving forces behind his photography.
PhotoActive specializes in FOUR genres: wedding (Love), event (Adventure), portrait (Life), and modeling (Art) photography. Chuck offers stylized, professional, and value-oriented in-studio or on-location photography. He’s shot hundreds of weddings, events, and photo sessions over the years. Additionally, Chuck has been published numerours times for his fashion and glamour work. He’s worked with modeling agencies, professional, and inexperienced models.
In 1994, Chuck graduated from the University of South Florida (USF -Tampa campus) with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (BA). Since graduation, he’s held several professional positions including that of a probation officer, credit manager, Senate Aide, and is currently a program manager in an educational nonprofit organization. He also attended graduate school at USF (GO BULLS!!!) and obtained his Masters of Public Administration (MPA) degree. In addition to photography, he enjoys spending time with family (wife and two children – both boys), traveling, reading, martial arts, athletics, strategic wargaming, video gaming, and politics.
Chuck and his family relocated to Atlanta, GA in 2023. What once was his second home is now the family’s primary residence. No stranger to Atlanta, they are enjoying the culture and everything Atlanta has to offer. Transitioning PhotoActive Photography to Georgia has taken time but now we are starting to make inroads building clientele and expanding our brand.
A little more about Chuck: He loves all things technology-related, dogs, is allergic to cats, loves many genres of music, loves science fiction (his favorite TV series is “Foundation” now on Apple TV), Destiny 2 is his favorite video game, he loves everything about “The Mandalorian” on Disney+ and “The Last of Us” on HBO, he loves recreational firearms shooting, and, in another life, he’d be an archaeologist. A sci-fi aficionado, Trekkie, “BSG,” “The Expanse,” and “Star Wars” fan, Chuck loves everything about the genre and greatly appreciates fantasy universes and “Comic-Con” experiences!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any business, particularly photography in a well-saturated market, is tough. Learning and competing in the Atlanta-area market, which is probably five times larger than the Tampa, FL market, has been challenging. Starting over has taken a lot of time and money. Atlanta is tough!

One of Chuck’s strongest characteristics is his ability to communicate with his clients. Understanding the client’s vision, how best to realize and deliver it are noteworthy traits that make business dealings pleasant and productive. Experience and professionalism matter. Integrity matters. Talent matters.
Wedding photography is Chuck’s personal favorite genre, and he takes it extraordinarily seriously. One may ask why he takes being a wedding photographer so seriously and enjoys it so much. Simply put, he considers himself to be a visual family historian. Capturing the joining of two families and their histories together is an important day in both family lineages that will continue for generations. Additionally, when meeting with clients, he believes it should be made clear to the bride and groom that their wedding is NOT just another job, but a part of their heritage. As your wedding photographer, he is capturing precious moments in your family history that will be passed down from generation to generation. This is incredibly important to Chuck.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
The client being overjoyed with their pictures is a success for Chuck! It is nice when he loves the work too, but in this business, the client takes precedence. Full stop.
