Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Walter.
Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Fairview, Tennessee (it’s not a good view, it’s not a great view, it’s a FAIRview). I attended Butler University where I studied Digital Media and played goalkeeper for the Bulldogs, while moonlighting as mascot walker. All roads led me to Macon, Georgia when I was hired as an intern in sports information for the ASUN Conference. They kept her around and she quickly declared Macon, HOME. After several years of making super cool videos and live ESPN broadcasts in college athletics, the pandemic encouraged me to take a new path and I decided to become more connected to HOME by accepting a job as a Multimedia Manager for Macon-Bibb County. Now I make super cool videos and live broadcasts that showcase all the wonderful goings on in Macon, Georgia. I am one of the people behind talking the Mayor into to doing stunts like repelling off the fire training tower and dressing up like a rock star for the amphitheater groundbreaking. I am extremely involved in the Macon community and one way I got involved was volunteering on the Bragg Jam Board… I now serves as the President of the all volunteer board and strives to continue to bring music to Macon as the Board embarks on it’s 27th year of Bragg Jam.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to Macon and knowing what I wanted to do with my life was bumpy. But once I moved to Macon and was a part of this community I knew it was home and that I wanted to part of making it the best place to live. One of the organizations that immediately made me feel part of the community was Bragg Jam. This is an organization that supports live music in middle Georgia and we hold a large event in the last weekend of July called the Bragg Jam Concert Crawl. Of course it’a not always easy, there’s always going to be someone who will put down your idea, funding projects is especially hard right now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the President of the non-profit, Bragg Jam. We are an all volunteer board and all the work we put into the community is out of a labor of love. Bragg Jam’s mission is to support music in Middle Georgia and help live music thrive.
Bragg Jam’s signature event is one of Macon’s staples; a summer music festival, celebrating the city’s vibrant arts scene and sense of community. What began as a small tribute concert in memory of Macon musicians Brax and Tate Bragg has grown into a multi-day celebration that includes the iconic Concert Crawl through downtown venues, free community events like Second Sunday concerts on Coleman Hill, and creative offshoots such as the Muddy Mystery Shows and Bragg Jamuary. Each year, Bragg Jam brings together thousands of music lovers and musicians from across the country to experience the best of Macon’s live music culture.
As a dedicated board member and creative force behind Bragg Jam’s marketing and storytelling, I help shape how the festival connects with the community. I lead the board in how best further Bragg Jam’s mission. That also includes branding, social media, and visual storytelling efforts; from designing event graphics and campaigns to managing communications that capture the energy, heart, and hometown pride behind Bragg Jam. My work helps ensure that everything reflects what makes Bragg Jam more than just a festival — it’s Macon’s celebration of music, creativity, and connection.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Lean on your community and follow your dream. If you are passionate enough your village will follow you through all the ups and downs.
