Today we’d like to introduce you to Macauly Basham.
Hi Macauly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path began as a college athlete with dreams of being a nurse. I always knew in some way I wanted to help people. I quickly learned that I no longer wanted to pursue nursing or play my sport. The “traditional” way of life wasn’t really working for me. Go to college, get a degree, get a good paying job, start a family; it all sounded great. I can remember beating myself up for a while for not being “successful”, Ultimately that ended up not being the path for me to take. I took a leap of faith and applied to massage therapy school. My career began in 2018. I received an amazing education from Atlanta School of Massage. I was then licensed by the state of Georgia in 2018. I began practicing with a popular massage franchise from 2019-2021. After awhile I realized I was getting burnt out and feeling like I needed a change. I gained a significant amount of experience and confidence and decided that I wanted to work for myself. In 2021 I opened my doors and I have never been more happy or proud of myself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Hasn’t always been smooth. The business side of things has been like a foreign language to me, but if I can’t find the answer I lean on my amazing support system to figure it out. I am also balancing life being a business owner as well as a full time mom. Both have their own unique challenges. I definitely have to make lists to keep up with the demands from both roles. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to do both business and be a mom.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Cauly Effect. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a licensed massage therapist. My business provides therapeutic massage therapy. I specialize in Deep Tissue Massage, Pre/Post Natal Massage, Swedish Massage and Reiki. I like to meet my clients where they are at and cater their massage to their specific needs. I think what sets me apart from my peers is my affordability and my commitment to providing excellent service. I would like readers to know that regular massage therapy has so many amazing benefits and I would love to see you soon!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yes join any networking groups you can. Talk to people. Go to events. Host events! For me doing chair massage gives me the opportunity to get my hands on people and show them why they need to be on my table.
