Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamia F.
Hi Tamia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It was after freshman year of college and I was broke, lost and had no idea what I was doing with my life. I talked to God and asked him “can you reveal what one of my purposes is? I feel as though I’m just living through life without a passion for anything”. He revealed it FAST. I started braiding my cousins hair by her request. It then all hit me that I should start my own hair business. I always knew how to braid. I remember teaching myself at 8 years old. I then started taking clients from home. I promoted myself every chance possible. I taught myself EVERYTHING. I remained a student. I decided to drop out of college and go to cosmetology school while still working from home. I graduated cosmetology school April 2025 and moved into a suite May 2025. My story is still being written and it’s been an amazing , yet complex journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course it hasn’t been all of a smooth road. As a business owner your business is going to force you to grow as a person in order for your business to grow. It has been times where I would catch myself crying behind my clients heads lol but I still showed up. Times where I would choose comfort over growth. For instance I have been telling myself for yearssss that I’m going to move into a suite. That vision has finally came to life this year. Times where I have went to plenty of job interviews because I didn’t have clients this week but bills still have to be paid. Times where people would tell me “you should just go to a shop… you need to get a job… why did you do your page that way… can you afford that.. etc.” but that’s apart of the journey and the story. It all builds a character in you that can never be broken. All of that pressure creates a diamond.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a licensed hairstylist that specializes in healthy haircare. Doesn’t matter if it’s a silk press, braids, locs, or extensions. My brand focuses on the health of the hair and of course the beauty. I’m known for my growing hands. I’m proud of myself for never giving up. Till this day. Staying persistent, discipline and moving through perseverance to create a brand that I love. The story still continues.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
People call it “luck” and that’s a word that I use all of the time , but behind it is a bigger meaning. I call it “destiny”. I was destined for this position in my life so I walk with this strong conviction about it, and “luck” follows me whenever I go.
