Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Emma Flynn of Adair Park

Emma Flynn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Emma, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Can we call it intentional wandering? There’s no end goal, no, I must be here in the next x amount of years, but more a sense of following where this path takes me. Wandering keeps opportunities open + creativity flowing through the business in a way that keeps it exciting. It’s not aimless wandering but wandering with the intent of finding the freedom to grow in a way that feels right.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
commoner came to be because we all have one thing in common – the spaces we live and work in.
our connection to our space gives us connection to our community.

commoner exists to transform communities by connecting people to their space through thoughtful + approachable design.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
‘it’s served it’s purpose’ is a concept we come back to often in the flynn house to assess and reassess most everything we interact with. It feels freeing to release the things that might have felt crucial at one point in time. I feel like lately, the part of me that felt like I had to prove myself constantly or fail is starting to become the piece that can be let go. It got me to where I am today, and I’m thankful for it, but it’s time to give myself more space, and with that, I think it will open up more areas for exploration + growth I didn’t know were possible.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
This feels like my recent therapy sessions, ha! I’ve been reflecting on fears lately, and I’ve had an ever-present fear of failure that I’ve been aware of and I think most everyone has some version of that. Digging deeper into what that actually means and looks like though, it became clear that it’s more than just failure, it’s the embarrassment that comes along with it and the implications of that. So working through the question and sitting with what’s the worst thing that can happen? has helped me get past some of these fears and not let them hold me back from doing the things I’m dreaming about.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
For sure – You get what you get with me. The only thing that probably isn’t super obvious is that I’m a total introvert. I like interacting with people but as soon as it’s over I need my quiet time.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
Give me the ocean + the sunshine and I’m all set.
