Daily Inspiration: Meet Terrance Terry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance Terry.

Hi Terrance, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Detroit Michigan. I actually started doing nails as a dare believe it or not.
A good friend on mine owned a nail salon, and I used to always go hang out with her and I found myself fascinated with the craft.
At the time I worked as a visual merchandiser at an upscale furniture showroom.

She began to show me little things as I would watch her on a daily basis and one day I decided to pick up a brush and a file and the rest is history

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It actually was a smooth road because I was around a great support system coming from Detroit Michigan in the late 90s early 2000s Beauty was all around me therefore it was easy to accelerate and I am naturally artistic so I applied my eye for all things, beauty to the nail industry!

Once I relocated to Atlanta, I began to work and market with other creatives in the industry such as Hair Stylist, photographers, Makeup Artist, editors, art directors, and all things of the sort.

By doing so I had become a part of a creative network group, which made it very easy to have access to a lot of jobs and opportunities that I might not have had without doing so. I am a firm believer that it’s about who you know not what you know and it’s all about making great connections and having great energy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I was best now for my artistic approach to the Nail industry using Fashion. I began to create nail art that was based off of fashion in the early 2000s using Real Denim fabrics on nails also incorporating, free hand, drawn, nail art.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One of the most surprising things in my career is that I was one of the original celebrity Nail Stylist working with a lot of amazing people such as Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Fantasia, Jennifer, Garner, and the list goes on. I also have worked on multiple movies behind the scenes working with some of your favorite stars and actresses. I had the pleasure to work on the hunger games the odd life of Timothy Green, P Valley.

In 2016 a production company reached out to me and asked if I would love to audition and participate in a groundbreaking television show that involved different nail artists competing for a top prize to become the next top Nail Tech! That show was called Naild It. Which appeared on Oxygen television network and was produced by the same production and producers of project runway
I appeared on the show as one of the top judges for the entire season!

This was such a great project to be a part of because often times no highlight or acknowledgment is brought to the Nail Tech or Manicurist. It’s always about the Hair Stylist or the Make Up Artist or the Wardrobe Stylist so this was a very amazing project to show representation!
