Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa.
Marissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I feel like I was always led towards a career where energy work and healing were at the center.
As a child, I would sit in the enclosures at the humane society, sometimes for hours, with dogs that nobody wanted because they were afraid and shy. We had an understanding.
As a young teen, I started doing energy work with an ex racehorse at the stable I took lessons from, not even knowing what I was doing. I just poured from my heart, extended my hands, and the horse settled under them.
At 16, I was introduced to a Shaman who took me under her wing and changed my life. She helped me hone my skills and continues to do so to this day.
At 18, I went to massage school and learned how to put my skills to use, massaging people and animals.
At 26, I opened my own massage therapy and healing studio, and now I get to help people transform into their best selves every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m so fortunate that the road has been relatively smooth for me! I’ve met incredible people, gotten to travel all over the country to learn new skills, and have witnessed people’s lives changed for the better.
I’ve had to learn how to not absorb the things people and animals bring to the table, set aside what I think is right, and just let the healing flow in collaboration with Spirit. In business, as in life, I am always learning and forever a student. Life has been so good to me!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Wholistic Bodywork Studio provides clients with multiple healing modalities in studio and in home for people and animals.
Some of the services I provide are massage therapy, CranioSacral therapy, reiki and energy work for humans, horses, and dogs.
I have been a medical massage therapist for 9 years, and have helped hundreds of people and animals through chronic pain, trauma, cancer, anxiety and depression, auto-immune conditions, and more.
Something I’d like readers to know is that the majority of equine and canine bodyworkers out there are not licensed professionals. There is no auditing body, such as the Georgia board of massage therapy that governs animal bodywork or energy work.
I have been licensed, certified, and taken hundreds of hours in continuing education classes to give me the best possible knowledge to help animals in need.
I am so proud to have helped people and animals live better lives and befriend their bodies and minds!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Yes!
My incredible mentor, Virginia Fulton, who is an energy worker, medical intuitive, and Shaman, took me under her wing at age 16 and still helps me hone my skills to this day.
My dear friend Alisha Robinson, who is also a licensed massage therapist and equine bodyworker. She has an incredibly grounding and calming presence and has inspired me endlessly with her heart and love for everyone she meets, and intuitive skills with animals.
My husband, Devon, who has been nothing but supportive of everything I do.
