Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla DuPont.
Carla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Getting caught in the economic fallout of the early 2000’s, I was laid off in 2009 and never looked back. I’ve been writing and creating (stories, characters, worlds) since I was 4-years-old. I used writing as a happy place to escape from my parents’ divorce and shuffling around between schools. It was my expressive vehicle. I began writing for pay in college; however, after being laid off with a husband and a new baby, I began to put my dreams of becoming a self-published author into action. Now, I do just about all genres of writing for clients in a wide variety of industries. Business and technical writing expands over industries including real estate, aesthetics, and motivation. Creative writing lends more freedom as I give clients a voice in fiction and non-fiction works. Social media really makes finding clientele easier. Well, it makes them find me easier. A good percentage of my clients come from social media, while the rest are referred to me – often as a tag on social media.
Has it been a smooth road?
No! No! NO! Entrepreneurship has not been a smooth road. Any entrepreneur who says so is not being honest with themselves or you. Initially, I had struggles finding clients because I didn’t know how to let the world know I was accepting clients. People would ask, “What exactly do you do?” to which I responded, “Write.” I hadn’t been in the industry enough to have developed a more well-rounded explanation. I wasn’t confident in my ability to convey my craft. In turn, I didn’t seem confident. I kept going, even taking types of jobs that I had not ever done before to gain the experience.
My advice to women? Don’t be afraid. If there is something you feel moved to do, something that will be fulfilling, something that you have an urge to do at your very core…do it! It will be scary, it will be uncertain but do it. Educate yourself on the process, follow people who are already doing what you want, people who are living it every day, then, put your own spin on it. But LIVE!
We’d love to hear more about Write With Carla.
I have recently taken my #grammarpolice moniker and recoined myself a Grammar Snob! I am a writer, an author – yes, there’s a difference, ghostwriter, author coach, and editor. My business, Write With Carla encompasses all aspects of the writing industry except for grants. For example, I do edit work for companies on their print copy, or I write it for them, I write speeches, business plans, resumes, website content, books, ebooks, and manuals.
I am most proud of Uncorked: A Writing & Wine Experience, where I gather writers, authors, and aspiring authors over brunch and wine while teaching them the ins and outs of writing a book from start to finish.
I like to think that I make writing fun, that’s what sets me apart. I offer great tips to authors and aspiring authors that, no matter where they are on their writing journey, my information will help them to improve and be bolder.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
Oprah – She made her OWN rules, pun intended, and been extremely successful.
Ava Duvernay – She is a powerhouse at bringing art to life. That’s what I want to do, create realistic content and bring it to life.

I love this! I also spent the first half of the year struggling with how to express exactly what I do. I am learning and growing. Thank you for sharing.
