Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Genette.
Hi Sean, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I lived in Florida for almost 20 years and grew up around the underground music scene. When I moved up to Georgia in early 2025, I noticed there was a bit of a gap in the market in terms of pages/people that were highlighting and promoting local/underground bands in Georgia. I started the Georgia Underground page in August, and the page quickly grew from there. I also started booking and doing promotion in 2026, with my first-ever show being on April 3 in Athens. I’m still actively planning and promoting shows, with at least 2 more shows planned for 2026.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest obstacles is just gaining traction in the scene and building relationships with bands and venues. It’s been hard building up trust and recognition with bands and venues, mostly just because it’s hard getting over my social anxiety. You would never guess it based on how I present myself, but I actually have really bad social anxiety, so overcoming that and meeting so many new people has also been a little challenging.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run the Georgia Underground page, which highlights local/underground bands in Atlanta, Athens, Gainesville, and all over the state of Georgia. I started the page in August 2025, and as of May 13, 2026, have amassed over 1,300 followers. One of the highlights of my page is the “Band of the Week”, where I pick a band in Georgia that has an upcoming single/album release or major show and highlight them specifically. I also run an annual “March Madness”-style bracket, where my followers can vote on bands to advance to the next round until a winner is chosen. I also book/promote my own shows, with my next show coming up on June 7, 2026 at Hendershot’s in Athens, with a lineup of Karma Kat, Murder the Mood, and Wilted Cabbage.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a relatively introverted kid when I was in school. I had friends, and did hang out with them, but I spent a lot of time in my room listening to music and making playlists. I’ve always been a bit shy, but once I’m comfortable I usually open up a lot more. I grew up going to church, and I still attend on a regular basis.
