Hi Novianti, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of owning and operating Talay Thai Cuisine after taking over from the previous owner. What started as an opportunity quickly became something much more personal — a second home, a passion, and a way to connect with the community through food and hospitality.
Over the years, the restaurant has grown alongside me. There have been long days, challenges, and sacrifices, but also countless rewarding moments shared with loyal customers, dedicated staff, and families who have supported us from the very beginning. Seeing guests return year after year, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and everyday meals with us, is what has made this journey truly meaningful.
For me, Talay Thai Cuisine has always been about more than serving food. It’s about creating a welcoming place where people can gather, feel cared for, and experience authentic flavors made with heart. Every dish we serve reflects the pride, hard work, and love that have gone into building this business over the last decade.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the support of our community and everyone who has been part of our story. What began as taking over a restaurant became a life-changing journey — one built on perseverance, passion, and the belief that great food brings people together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, we’ve faced our share of challenges over the years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. That period was one of the hardest times for the restaurant industry. Overnight, everything changed — dining rooms closed, business slowed dramatically, and there was so much uncertainty about the future.
There were moments when it felt overwhelming trying to keep the restaurant running while also taking care of our staff, customers, and family. On top of COVID, we’ve also dealt with rising food costs, staffing shortages, and the everyday pressures that come with owning a small business. Running a restaurant requires long hours, constant problem-solving, and a lot of sacrifice behind the scenes.
But those struggles also taught me resilience. They reminded me why I started this journey in the first place and how important community support truly is. We adapted, stayed determined, and continued serving our customers the best we could. Looking back, those difficult times made us stronger and even more grateful for every customer who chose to support us through it all.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. Every challenge has helped shape both me and the business into what we are today.
