Conversations with Jay Wise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Wise.

Hi Jay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Started off in running around in the. streets in newport news, virginia & became known as someone who knew how to rap around 10 years old. Got into band in junior high school where I became 1st chair all city & 2nd chair all district for playing the tuba & afterwards the streets kind of consumed me & I lost focus for music until I came to atlanta & locked with Duct Tape Ent, running around the streets with OG KK, Trouble, Big Bank Black,,Veli Sosa, Alley Boy & the rest of the members building solid relationships with those guys & moving from studio to studio creating records with them & their affiliates like Young Scootee until I was able to branch out & meet people like Rico Richie & he had a studio that he aloud me to make my home after seeimg my work ethic where I started to meet producers like Squat, Go Grizz, Bricks Damane to name a few & several artists that were signed to majors that locked in with me & just started makin records on a professional level & learning the process from all of those guys abt studio etiquette & how to actually put real records together until I stumbled across a record I co produced for Kap G, Lil Uzi & Gunna & got a plaque & have just been focusing on helping to build ip & coming artist & producers..The work isnt glamorous but Its a love & passion that I dnt believe will wver die that so im still here to this day helping producers & artist get major deals for the love of music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t been smooth the whole way, I’ve made friends in in the industry that I thought were froends thst ended up straling credits & producers Ive brought into the picture but It just comes with the game & I look at those situations more as lessons learned or tuition that everyone must go through in this business especially when most of us creatives deal from the heart & not a business perspective thinking people will do the right thing rather than the opposite so there were definitely some valuable lessons learned that I’ll never go through again & those lessons never made me want to quit or chamge my character, It honestly just helped me learm the business & the do’s & don’ts moving forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a writer/producer/engineer/artist & producer developer…I help producers hone their craft & artist develop their sound…As glamorous as getting producer placements in the industry may sound, Ive never been the producer to make thet my end all be all, I’d much rather be the producer for indie artist thats crucial to them attaining a professional career..Same for producers, I have an ear that allows me to help direct their growth & Itall stems from the genuine love I have for the music & playing a role in trying to helping the nect generation become great & find their place in this industry.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
1 of my favorite books is “The Neville Collection” by Neville Goddard & its basically all of his books in 1 that consists of growth & development, spiritually & mentally. As far as podcasts I enjoy Don Cannon’s TMRO app or any platform that showcases producers.
