Today we’d like to introduce you to Deepak Thawani.
Hi Deepak, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I completed my bachelor’s degree, I joined my family business which involves dealing in food and beverages mainly Indian sweets and snacks. For a span of 12 years, I managed and learned every bit of details of food industry. It was in 2024, after feeling exhausted and observing no development further, I realized that I am at the wrong place. inside me, a part wanted to explore the outer world of creativity and arts. So I decided to initiate a change. and this whole thinking developed after my wife introduced me to the world of books. I was enjoying reading very much. I was surprised to see such wonderful stories and books already existed. then, one day I thought I should start writing stories. I was always good at making them. And then, the rest is history. From being a full time food business owner to becoming a full time writer is my travel path. . Storytelling, fiction and everything around books is now my comfort space. I read a lot and write regularly. I got my first book published in July 2025 which was an English novel about the generational trauma, narcissist parents and family relationships. The title of the book is “The Silent Thread”. I aspire to write further about gentle parenting and uplifting the whole generation ahead of us. I believe the pain of a single person can be comparatively big then the pain of incidents around him. And this pain can be overcome only with the kindness, compassion and empathy (not sympathy) of us towards each and every human being and most importantly other living creatures around us.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No this has not been a smooth road. At the starting phase of me being an author, I had a very little time for myself because I was alternatively looking after the business. I somehow managed to complete my first book and it got published. I also had to face some backlash because when I speak against the old societal norms of relationships between family members, father and son, about raising the children right way, people judge me. There is a lot of disagreement. Some people agree and some totally oppose the idea. I understand that not everyone has the same story. but there can be a positive approach to every problem in this world.
When coming to the topic of books and publishing, the struggles are totally same as we face in any other start-up or the product industry. Writing is just not enough. In-fact consider any art form, just if you are great at the art is not going to take you to places. You should learn how to socialize, you have to work on your networking and marketing skills. As this was my first book with zero social medial followers backing me, it was hard for me to get a good publishing deal at first. However, I decided to go for a hybrid publishing module and I am super happy that I made a right choice. I am satisfied with the quality and number of people my book has reached.
Along the way, there were a bit of disagreements from my family side too. Firstly, It was about choosing to be a writer over an established business. secondly, I was questioning a whole generation about their parenting style and what damage have they made. So it was indirectly or directly pointing a question towards their years of raising kids.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Now, for myself, I would love if people know me as a writer rather than a businessman. Books are love for me and reading is the activity I enjoy most. I don’t read what is trending and making news just because it has been written by some celebrity. I would rather choose to read what makes an impact. Classic books written by authors when they were going through some kind of big transition in their life. Tragedy, to be precise because that shapes our thought process.. the pain which we go through defines the end person we become.
I want to always write about the pain a person goes through during different phases of life. I am most proud of myself because I am sensitive enough to feel what different creatures are going through.(this includes animals, birds and humans too). I believe we are on a verge of collapsing and to save this world from becoming a worst place to live in, we have to uplift the coming generation sensibly. I have a daughter and she is 3.5 years old. I am seeing such a positive personality and impact coming out from her because me along with my wife has worked upon her. We have given ample of time to make sure she grows in the best way she can. I want this whole coming generation to feel safe, supportive and secured in every term. And this view of myself, looking at the world differently makes me apart from others. In today’s world, everybody (most of the people) are driven by the trends around them and I feel totally unaffected by them.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In next 5-10 years, I see the creative industry going in the direction of trends. Artificial intelligence taking over. I believe there are great writers out there but AI will overcrowd the market with emotionless art which will impact real artists and their existence. Anything that is trending over the social media is making big in terms of impact, profit, money and every aspects. We might lose the best writers, classic literature and sensitive people around us. This will be a big shift.
As I am also associated with the food and beverages industry, especially in India, I feel there is a big shift taking place when it comes to the diet and food consumption of people here. There is a sect of people on one side who are turning towards the healthier options and on the other side there is a vast audience of people consuming adulterated foods. With industrialization growing it paws deep in the society, each and every plate on the food table is being impacted. Human lives are treated not more then peanuts for now.
