Today we’d like to introduce you to Latoya Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
She was never supposed to follow a straight path—and she didn’t. A high school dropout from the class of 1999, she rewrote her story on her own terms, earning her GED in 2002 while navigating a fast-paced, party-driven lifestyle that often placed her on the edge of trouble. By 26, she was a mother of four, balancing the demands of raising children with long shifts as a waitress at Waffle House, building resilience one day at a time.
In 2008, her life was forever altered by the devastating loss of her oldest daughter in a fatal car accident. Yet even in grief, she pressed forward. Just months after laying her child to rest, she achieved a milestone—graduating with an associate degree in paralegal studies and securing an internship with DeKalb County Superior Court. But stability remained elusive. Within three months, her husband filed for divorce, and weeks later, she found herself homeless with three children, no job, no car, and no safety net.
What followed could have been the end of her story—but instead, it became her turning point.
Within a year, she accomplished what once seemed impossible: purchasing her first home. That victory ignited a new vision. She began investing in real estate, steadily building and managing a portfolio across Metro Atlanta. By 2014, she had passed the Georgia Real Estate Exam, working alongside some of the region’s most respected brokerages. She expanded her reach with a reciprocal license in Alabama, then elevated her career further by earning her Broker’s License and launching her own real estate firm, offering property management and full-service support for buyers and sellers.
Her journey is not just one of survival—but of transformation. It’s a testament to what can happen when setbacks are met with relentless determination. Through loss, instability, and uncertainty, she held onto a mindset that refused defeat.
Because in the end, her story isn’t defined by what she went through—it’s defined by how she rose. With an “I Refuse To Lose” mindset, she turned adversity into fuel, proving that no matter how broken the past, the future is always yours to build.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—far from it. My journey has been marked by some of life’s toughest challenges. I experienced the pain of losing my oldest daughter in a tragic car accident, a loss that reshaped me in ways words can’t fully capture. Around that same time, I faced the collapse of my marriage, which led to me becoming homeless with my three remaining children. I had no job, no car, and no financial stability—just the responsibility to keep going for my kids.
Earlier in life, I also navigated my share of instability—dropping out of high school, living a party lifestyle, and finding myself in and out of trouble. Becoming a young mother of four added another layer of responsibility while I worked long hours as a waitress just to make ends meet.
But those struggles became the foundation of my strength. Each setback forced me to grow, refocus, and push forward with even more determination. They taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of betting on myself—no matter the circumstances.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
