Inspiring Conversations with Mason Mishael of Studio 478

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Mishael.

Hi Mason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well my dad instilled a love of music in me from before I could even talk. He’d play Billy Joel, Tom Petty, and Fleetwood Mac in the car ALL the time. So by the time I was 16, I started learning covers of classic rocks songs on the piano. And for some reason I started recording them and putting them on YouTube. You can still go find them if you want me to cringe. Once I was in college, I started recording covers with my friends. The collaboration and working with other musicians was inspiring. So post college I got a traveling live audio job and interned at Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, GA. I actually started recording people for money in my home studio too! At this point it had grown from a humble bedroom studio into somewhat of a real recording space! Up until this point I hadn’t considered that this could be my full time job, but I wanted it to be. So I moved to Atlanta to pursue music production full time and I can proudly say that as of a few months ago I am fully freelance-two years after moving to Atlanta. Working in the music scene here has been the most fulfilling things I’ve ever done in my life and I’m so excited to grow with it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve definitely had push-back in my journey to working in music. I’ve had friends and family tell me how hard running your own business is, how unpredictable it can be, and that most don’t succeed. You know, the typical conversation. I also lost my dad, my biggest supporter a few years ago. That was a difficult time for me, so a lot of what I do, I like to think is for him. But I’ve found that the world of music is a perfect fit for me. I can’t imagine doing anything else

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Studio 478?
My business, Studio 478, is a place where artists and bands can grow. Not only am I passionate about recording high quality sound and running audio for live events, but I want to help artists realize their full potential. Together we can develop a sound in the studio, create video content, put on shows, and grow them as an artist! I specialize in studio recording and I’ve branded what I create as “Honest Sound”. I want to capture someone naturally and as they are. I can of course edit and mix them to sound their best, but if you can capture an amazing performance in the studio, properly recorded-they will sound better than any fixing I can do in the mix. Part of that is creating a safe place to create. It’s very important to me to curate a cozy and comfortable space to record in. I also can record to tape and use other analog equipment-I believe that sets me apart from others. I’m a big believer in using the REAL DEAL. If you want the old school sound, use old school equipment. I want people to know that this is not JUST a recording studio-this is somewhere you can grow.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Ohh that’s a tough one. It might be the two story treehouse I built in my backyard. I was super proud of it. It had windows, a roof, ladder, everything! I had plans for plumbing and electrical, but I didn’t have any money, so it stayed pretty rudimentary.

Pricing:

  • $60 per hour for studio time
  • $100 per mix
  • $400 day rate for live events
  • However I’m a person, I can negotiate to fit the needs of a project
