Art & Life with Cody Stallings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Stallings.

Cody, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in a small town in North Carolina having absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I moved to Nashville, TN in 2012 on a whim and started attending classes at the Art Institute of TN Nashville. I had never picked up a camera before that moment. Fast forward three years, I graduated in 2015 as Best in Show with a Bachelors in Commercial Photography. Since then, I’ve gone on to work in the freelance world doing photo, advertising, social media, and photo retouching.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I like to create quirky colorful portraits with some commercial flair whether it is for a musician, artist or drag queen. I want to showcase my subjects’ personalities in a positive and fun light. I want people to feel like they know something about the people I photograph after seeing their image.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I define success as doing what you want to do and making it not feeling like work. I think you have to have the undying drive for whatever it is you want. So many people are going after the same goal and it’s important to stay true to the work you want to make and to yourself and eventually you will find that audience or niche.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I stay very active on Instagram (@CodyStallingsPhotography) and I try to constantly update my website with my latest work (www.codystallings.com).
