Meet Mark & Michelle Atcheson of Camp Blood & Lowell Paintball

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark & Michelle Atcheson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mark & Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Camp Blood started off as a party at my cabin in the woods. We had free alcohol at my cabin but you had to walk through the woods to get it for free. We made a trail through the woods to get to my home and put up different spooky scenes along the way and two people willing to stay out there and scare them as they came through. . We had about 12 friends over that first year, then there were around 30 the second year but the 3rd year we had over 144 people at my home. That was the end of the parties at my house.

The next year we got sponsors to give away door prizes and we rented the VFW and hired a live band called Silver for the entertainment. Our advertising had fallen through and the radio station didn’t bother to even call us and let me know there was a problem.

When we left Camp Blood and went to the party at the VFW there were 4 people at the party!! Talk about a grown man crying! We still gave out the door prizes AND we gave $250, $150 & $50 respectively to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place best costumes. That was the end of the parties period! From there Camp Blood just grew and grew and grew. We kept putting what we brought in back into the business to make it better each year. This year will be our 28th year of operation and we hope that weather permitting we’ll be bigger than ever too!

Lowell Paintball started out playing on the grounds that Camp Blood is located on and we had plenty of buildings to hide in and around. We would have people every weekend out playing and until folks starting tearing up the sets, everything was good. When we started having to replace and repair we moved the paintball playing area up into another section of the property away from Camp Blood.

Now we have a speedball field for a quick game of paintball and where we can hold tournaments and such as well as a woodsball field for a more relaxed game. Paintball started in 1999 and we are now in our 19th year of operation. Open almost every Saturday of the year we welcome newbies, church groups, families and any other person who wants to give it a try. If you don’t need another hobby, then DON’T PLAY paintball!

Has it been a smooth road?
Be a struggle most of the time but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Sometimes not enough money to do what I need to do and THAT is VERY frustrating!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Camp Blood & Lowell Paintball – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
First off we are Christian owned and operated and we have to thank God first of all for the opportunity we have had to serve our community all these years. Camp Blood & Lowell Paintball are both designed for the entertainment of our guests.

Camp Blood is a haunted attraction that is in operation during the fall Halloween season and usually opens around mid-September and runs through the end of October. Open nights are Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings at 9 pm, and our theme is Home of Haunted Hillbillies & Dead Rednecks.

We noticed how much someone in a pair of overalls and a few missing teeth scared the living daylights out of those people from “lanter” (Atlanta) so we took off running with it and it has worked very well. We also use hillbilly & redneck humor, along with misdirection, to keep you off guard and then we hit you with the scare! Camp Blood has loosely based on Friday the 13th movies because we use characters dressed like the iconic “Jason”. Throw in some redneck ingenuity and you got yourselves on screaming a great time.

Our ambiance is one in a million! You purchase your tickets, get assigned to a group and get to enjoy the things going on around you. Sit by the campfire and listen to pawpaw sing and tell jokes & stories. Visit mawmaw and get your fortune told by our redneck fortune teller. Play carnival games to win your sweetheart a cool prize! When you do, you’ll be donating money to buy Christmas gifts & toys for the kids in Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta!

Visit our concession and gift shop and grab a little snack for some energy before you hit the trail. Check out our redneck theater which always has some kind of horror movie playing to get you in the spirit and maybe edge your nerves before you make your way onto the Camp Blood Trail!

Lowell Paintball is exactly what it says it is. Join people on the field of battle and experience war games in a completely safe way. Everyone has heard the paintball nightmare stories about how bad it hurts……. we’ll when you play with us, everything is regulated.

From the speed of the paintballs as it comes out of the gun to the distance you are allowed to shoot at one another. We have referees on the field that keep law and order and make sure that everyone has a great time. Check us out when you can. Open every Saturday at 11 am except August, September & October. We are open by reservation only in August & September and weekdays, Monday thru Friday.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
