Meet Taylor Doehrman of Taylor Dawn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Doehrman.

Taylor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Thanks so much for having me! So! How it began! I got into wedding planning from my sweet friend, Molly McKinley (of Molly McKinley Designs, also here in Atlanta)!

I met Molly McKinley while I was still in college at UGA and figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. When we met, I began working with her and I felt like this whole world was opened up that I had no idea about! I could have a job where I could be creative, love on people, and also complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner. I always joke that I use the left and right brain equally, and I really think that’s true! I need a balance of fun creative and logical assurance.

During my time working on real weddings, I just fell more in love with the design process and how I was able to serve and love on brides during such an exciting time in their lives. It is so great to be able to help them not be stressed or overwhelmed but to truly enjoy the process. After working with Molly as an Associate Planner, I realized that my heart was really drawn to the design process; so, with lots of encouragement, I started Taylor Dawn!

Molly is now a mentor to me and she and I still have a wonderful relationship to this day, and I am forever thankful for her support and encouragement. I could not do my job without my sweet husband’s support, family, and friends, or the Lord’s provision over this little business!

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not! What fun would it be for a small business to say it’s been a smooth ride?! Mostly kidding.

As any young entrepreneur will tell you, there is ALWAYS something to learn. When I started, I felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants for an entire year. Learning processes, taxes, how to communicate well with people, how to manage time, the list goes on and on. A few years in and I am still learning every single day. I think that incorporating good communication and knowing how and when to give your clients what they need was (and still sometimes is) my biggest learning experience.

Being in the service industry, every client is different. All of my brides have different needs and different ways of expressing them. However, this is one of the aspects that brings me the most joy in this career! I love getting to know each bride individually and how best to serve them. And of course, we can’t move forward without talking about the struggle that is tax season when you own your own business. Whew. Moving on!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I would love to share my company’s mission statement here!

“Taylor Dawn specializes in wedding planning with a personal and thoughtful connection. From budget and logistics to custom design and vendor connection, our mission is to create a genuinely personal experience for our couples and their loved ones. More than pretty flowers or the perfect napkins, though, our focus is on exceptional service and loving our clients well – even after their big day.”

I feel as though this statement encompasses everything I could say about my little company. We are built on service and really just love loving on people! Of course, this comes hand-in-hand with the logistics of planning a wedding day. Taylor Dawn is a full-service wedding planning and design company that goes with a bride from start to finish in the planning process. We begin with inspiration boards and nailing down an aesthetic for the wedding day. How do you want your day to look, feel, sound, etc.? From there, we work with some of the very best vendors in the Atlanta area to make our brides’ dreams a reality!

Although we specialize in the design process (let’s take what’s in your head and bring it to life!), our services also include execution on the wedding day. Making a timeline, layout, communicating with vendors, you know, all the things!

I believe what sets us apart are two things. First, the attention to detail on the day of the wedding. We are there at the beginning of the day to capture a flat-lay of our bride’s invitation suite and all her details. I always say, “If you’re spending money to make these things beautiful, you’d certainly want to capture them, right?!” To me, that is so important! I think it is so fun to have photos of your invitation suite, the perfume you wore, your wedding day jewelry, and so forth! Styling these details on the wedding day is one of my very favorite parts of the whole process.

Nothing beats the look on a bride’s face when she sees this and realizes her day is coming together just as she imagined. Second, I truly believe my faith sets me apart. This allows me to love my brides so fully and has drawn me so much closer to many of them. Being able to dig a little deeper into our friendship is something I cannot describe. I feel like I was made to serve them and give them the very best. The sense of fulfillment from being able to do that on a daily basis is really just incredible.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Atlanta is a great place for a wedding planning business! This industry has definitely begun to thrive in the past couple of years, and there are always new vendors and venues to work with!

If someone were just starting out, Atlanta is such a fun location! The city offers such a variety of locations and each neighborhood has a unique vibe. Also, the churches! Ah!

Atlanta has some stunning ones. Where else could you have wedding reception options at an art studio in Cabbagetown and an Italian hideaway in Midtown right down the road from one another?!
