Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Gomez.
Sasha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Sasha Gomez and I’m from Atlanta Ga. I’ve been singing since I could open my mouth, my mom would record me singing and dancing and she always fueled my passion to sing. While in the delivery room my mom explained seeing a lady on tv who sang and danced and her name was Sasha, and that’s where I got my name from. I started writing at the age of 12 and at that moment my parents realized it was time for their little butterfly to start flying so my mom began meeting with different vocal coaches and people within the industry who could help me get to the next level.
Butterflies have always been a symbol from God for me I’ve always felt like It was him telling me it’s going to be ok or that a blessing is coming soon, I’ve loved them since I was a little girl and they have been with me since the beginning, I feel like they represent me; the caterpillar turned butterfly, but I’ll get into that later. At the age of 16 I began working with and doing features with a few names such as Betty Wright, Trey Songz, Yung Joc, Novel and many more, and with these connections, I began unfolding new found skills I didn’t think I’d ever had, such as engineering and mixing my own music.
Once I got into my 20s I started to feel like God wanted me to do something different especially with me knowing so much about the business myself so I decided to be an independent artist so that I could have creative control of my music and ideas. All those years I felt like I was the caterpillar in my teens but once I hit my 20s the cocoon started to develop this was the time I knew he was working on me and putting me in the right places around the right people all so I could get to where I am now. I became pregnant around March and I was excited because I knew that I was about to take a step into motherhood which is one of the most beautiful moments a woman can have.
On August 14th, 2015 I stopped feeling my daughter move, I just knew something was wrong, we went to the dr and they tried every heart monitor and assured me it was the machine and to wait for the Dr and that nothing was wrong…. but I knew. The Dr finally came in the room and did an ultrasound, and she then looked at me with tears in her eyes and told me that my daughters heart stopped I remember my heart dropping into my stomach And me wanting to run out the room and just scream I felt completely helpless and I couldn’t stop the tears but even in that moment I knew God had me.
On August 16th, 2015 Annaliyah Mya Christina Allen went home to God, a fire lit in my heart to create a body of word that I would dedicate to her, Annaliyah became another symbol of the butterfly for me every time I see one I think of her. She was the reason behind my self-titled album “Sasha Gomez” which I wrote, recorded and engineered in my home studio and you can hear it on BandCamp.com. I’ve taken a little break now just to pursue a few other dreams such as modeling and I love it! Who says you can’t be talented all around?
I’m a walking brand and I’ll never stop, I want little girls and women to look at me and see themselves no matter the pain, no matter the struggles know that nothing is impossible and if at first you don’t succeed try try again and never quit. 🦋
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Losing my daughter was a big struggle and also getting to a point to where I became really depressed because I just wasn’t sure at a young age about my dreams coming to fruition.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a singer and model but I’m best known for my singing, I’m most proud of my successes and my struggles because without either I wouldn’t be where I am. What sets me apart is that I know that my path is my own I know I have a mission on this earth and it’s to be everything God has made me be. I’m the butterfly 🦋.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’d never start over the past is the past and every last moment I’ve experienced led me to be the Sasha Gomez you see now.
