Today we’d like to introduce you to Roanna Rhodes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My interest in the world of self- help and self- improvement goes way back I started reading self -help books in my 20’s, out of a desire to improve my life and to develop healthier relationships with the people around me. The more I learned, the more I wanted to encourage others, and share with them everything I was learning. In my late 20’s, I made a commitment to follow Christ. With that decision came a new purpose; to become all God had planned for me to be. During the last 18 years, I have lead and participated in book studies and mentoring programs offered by my church. Helping women grow in the area of self-development and encouraging them to discover their life purpose became a growing passion of mine. When I was introduced to the world of life coaching, it was a natural fit for me. Life coaching has combined my passion for learning and teaching with my desire to help women.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations. ~Zig Ziglar
I love that quote: it sums up my personal experience. As a stay-at-home mom, my repetitive schedule had me stuck in a rut and lacking purpose. However, once I started working with a life coach, she was able to help me move forward further than I ever could have on my own. Although it was very challenging to work through some of the tougher issues, I began to realize that I was headed in the right direction. We worked on cleaning up my thoughts and I started to lay down new thought patterns. I had to learn to stop judging myself and to give myself and others grace. I have had to work on having self-integrity, and practice self-love. The change started on the inside but it showed up on the outside as well. I was finally able to stop stress eating and people pleasing. My relationships with others started to improve. The work I did with my coach was challenging. I would go through it all again so that I can be the version of me I am today, and that is a more confident mom and wife. I believe that I will be able to help other women grow in these areas- too, and I’m excited to see what clients and I will accomplish together.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
What is a life coach? I get asked that question a lot! A life coach is often compared to a sports trainer, but a life coach helps clients train their brain. I work with my clients to sort through their thoughts so that they can recognize behaviors that hold them back from having the life they desire. Many people think life coaching is like going to a therapist, but in fact, it is very different. Therapy is often focused on a person’s past experiences whereas life coaching is present and future focused. This means I work with the client’s mission to move forward in their life. I can help with setting goals, assessing performance, all the while keeping clients motivated. I coach in the area of Improving Relationships, Confidence Coaching, and Health and Wellness. Biblical principles and values are at the core of all my coaching.
Any, advice for other women, particularly young women who are just starting their journey?
As a mom of two daughters, I’m always asking myself what I can tell them that would help them become all they can be. Two things come to mind: First, design your life mission and vision statement. You don’t have to be a CEO to have a mission statement or to know what your vision is. Putting your passions down in writing and referring back to them will help keep you on track and enable balance in your life. Second, learn to manage your thoughts. Our thoughts create our feelings; our feelings create our actions, our actions create our results… and that becomes our life.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role setting you up for success later in life?
Both of my parents have set such great examples for me. They worked hard all their lives, and they instilled in me the importance of having a good work ethic. My dad was involved in many entrepreneurial adventures, and I have definitely adopted his entrepreneurial spirit. But I think the value that stands out the most to me is how generous they were, my parents were always helping someone in need. As a life coach, I want to live out that value by helping my clients, and my community.
