Meet Derica Wilson of D.Wilson Photography in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derica Wilson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had an interest in art since I was a little girl. During my high school years, I had inspirations of being a Graphic Designer. I taught myself how to use photoshop and other programs. My passion for photography began while I was in college. I decided to purchase a DSLR camera and capture photos of my daughter as a baby. At the time, I didn’t know anything about Photography. However, photography became very natural for me! I honestly feel I have a God giving gift! I’ve read many books, watched a lot of YouTube channels, and attended several workshops to better my craft. It’s no better feeling than getting paid for something that you genuinely love to do! I love bringing the best out of people in photos and capturing unforgettable moments!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Many people feel that photography is an easy skill to learn. Most people think it’s just pointing and shooting a camera. However, photography can be very technical! Since I didn’t major in photography. I had to learn everything through trial and error. From purchasing the property equipment, the use of the different lens, and etc. However, in photography, it’s always something to improve on. I am always trying to learning different way to improve myself! So the struggles are worth it for me when I see improvement in my artwork.

D.Wilson Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a photographer and I specialize in portraits photography! I am known to bring the best out of people in Photography! Also, I have skills in image retouching. The thing that I am most proud of having people tell me how my artwork inspire them. What sets me apart from others is my passion to make sure every customer is satisfied. I always try to bring the best in all my clients! I want to have an experience, not just a photoshoot!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My most proudest moment as a company is when I had the opportunity to work with Black Future Labs. BFL is a nonprofit group created by the founder of Black Lives Matter. I had to the opportunity of capturing special moments of them making positive changes in our communities.
