Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeisha Dixon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My life is a true testament that God still does miracles. I was born in Miami, FL. to teenage parents, My life growing up was filled with love with a few disappointments. However, I survived them all. I am that woman that people always felt comfortable coming to for advice or needed a listening ear. If my life was a newspaper headliner, it will read, Schedule Your Pleasures Because Your Pain Will Schedule Itself. My favorite quote from Dr. Mike Murdock. Life is a journey that we all must walk alone sometimes. I didn’t think I could win with the hand that I was dealt. I thought why must my life be this be difficult. By the time I graduated from High School, I had already lost three aunts from AIDS. One week after graduation, I was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis over 80% of my body, which sent my life down a path of low self-esteem and a negative perception of who I was. I went from having the most beautiful chocolate skin, wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts to scars that ran deep and even today is a constant reminder of the battles I had to fight.
Every woman must face the reality that life is not all diamonds and pearls or even purses and clothes. We will face setbacks, pain, and heartache but in spite of the challenges we face, we are more than conquerors. We must learn to support each other and encourage one another. No woman is self-made. God has sent someone to help us along the way.
Has it been a smooth road?
Life was challenging but I serve a graceful God. I have encountered so many challenges on this journey. They have prepared me for what’s to come. Many of them were personal attacks against my body. I had to overcome tumors in my breast, a serve skin disease for over 20 years, liver biopsies and just two years ago fighting for my life when two large blood clots were found in both of my lungs.
I have a great support system around me. I am not a one-woman show. I have the love and support of my family, friends, and church. Most importantly, I had to make a decision to live and not die. I had a why on the inside of me that was bigger than me giving up. Although at times I did want to quit but I had to tell myself that pain doesn’t last always. I am was created to reign and rule in victory.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lakeisha Dixon Enterprises – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
When I moved to Atlanta from Miami, 11 years ago; I came with a dream to sell real estate and a trunk full of clothes. I desired change in my life and Miami was no longer that place where I felt that could happen. After moving to Atlanta, the real estate market crashed. And my dreams of being a real estate mogul came crashing down as well. I couldn’t find a job, and soon my six months of savings had dried up. At that point, I tried going back to school but couldn’t get through the core and remedial classes. During one of my classes, my professor told me that I “missed it” in the 3rd or 4th grade which is why I was having so much trouble with English and Mathematics. I was also looking for a job and after no success I found myself applying for government assistance. Since I was government assistance, with no children and a single woman, I had to volunteer 3x a week just to get a $30 gas card and $168 dollars a month in food stamps. However, despite being on food stamps, I knew that there was more in me – I just hadn’t figured out how to bring it to the surface. After receiving repeated horrible treatment with the clerks at the government assistance office, I was determined to find any job.
I finally found a job in Alpharetta, but I was driving 40 miles (one way) for a $10/hour job. It was during this time that God began to speak to me about the gifts He placed on the inside of me. He told me that I could produce more than what I was making at my current job if I tapped into these gifts. So about a year later, while working my job, I released my first book, “The Victorious State of Mind.” This was the book that began to change the trajectory of my life. Six months after “Victorious State of Mind” was released, I received a free VIP ticket to a business conference here in Atlanta, and where I met certified life coach, Tamera Lowe. This meeting was where my gifts began to unlock. I had NEVER heard of a life coach prior to my encounter with Tamera. Her stage presence was so powerful and I immediately knew she was someone that I wanted to emulate.
During the meeting she let us know that no matter where we came from, we could be successful. That message resonated with me, considering all I had experienced up until that point. She also let me know that even though I didn’t finish college, I could build a successful empire. During the conference, Tamera highlighted that if you don’t know the code to success, that no matter your pedigree, you’ll NEVER be successful. That’s what made me decide to become a life coach; I wanted to help people the way she helped me. So immediately after that conference I went home, and researched life coaching schools and shortly thereafter became a certified life coach. My life hasn’t been the same since.
I launched Lakeisha Dixon Enterprises in 2013, and five years later, I have successfully coached and developed over 100 men and women, helped over 40 authors release their book, provided leadership development and training for Fortune 500 companies and government agencies, ghostwritten training manuals, and have personally written and published five books. In 2018, I launched the Breakthrough Coaching & Leadership Academy (BCLA) where we certify coach, and train global leaders to impact, influence and infiltrate nations. “I believe in life, that you have to have the will to win, the strength to overcome obstacles, the courage to renew your mind daily, and the power to kill negative speaking.”
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I have encountered so many challenges on this journey. There have been times where I’ve felt rejected, inferior, unqualified, unworthy, and shut out of certain circles. I felt like I didn’t belong in the spaces the Lord was placing me in. However, my struggles have prepared me for what’s to come. I’ve even experienced personal attacks in my body. I had to overcome being diagnosed with a tumor in my breast that was initially deemed cancerous. I have endured a severe skin disease that has plagued my body for over 20 years. I’ve had liver and skin biopsies and – just two years ago – fighting for my life when the doctors found two large blood clots in both of my lungs. Though it all, I have had a great support system around me. I don’t believe that any woman stands alone.
I had to make the decision to live and not die. I had to have a “Why” that was greater than what was happening to me. Although at times I did want to quit, I had to remind myself that pain doesn’t last always. I had to remind myself that I was created to reign and rule in victory. I am an overcomer! Life may have been challenging, but I serve a God who empowers me to persevere. It’s that perseverance that has led me to this point today, and I believe, will allow me to be better, bigger, greater and more impactful in 20 years.
