Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Butler.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I moved to Atlanta in 1998, I was looking for a spiritual community but I could not find one that was unbiased and accepting of a newcomer. That was shocking to me. I had to spend much of time proving who I was and what my belief system was. It was exhausting. I decided to rent spaces and do my own work. The spaces I found were either too expensive, in a hotel or in dank back rooms of other businesses or churches. I wanted a clean, non-religious, modern space that felt like home. A place where I could unpack my worries, be me and feel cared for. I believe space/environment can do that for a person.
I taught and did readings for 16 years out of home until I found Tucker Mott Co. They were the only management company who showed me any support for my work. I was turned down by so many leasing companies saying my work was not a reliable career, I was a risk to them, and even claiming they were not renting the space anymore….yet I would see it each day for rent months after my inquiry. I was an LLC with no debt, credit, and a strong business history. Yet when I was honest about what I do, I was dismissed. I even decided to withhold I was a Medium to some, but once I was googled, I was gone. I was tired and never wanted anyone else to go through what I did. When Tucker Mott signed me to my first office 10 years ago, (700 sqft) not only did I create my office, I created an event space for like-minded, wholeness individuals, companies, and groups to rent. When I relocated to suite 10 (3000 sqft) I joined forces with Corey Dobyns and we provided six private offices within our event space for entrepreneurs to build their businesses and communities alongside ours. And we are busting at the seams already!!!
The Center for Love and Light has a home like feeling. When people come in and see our reclaimed wood wall, how nice it smells and then they proceed to check out the books, and hold the crystals and sip tea at the tea station, my heart melts. I have done my job. I have provided a safe space to explore. Doing my work in an environment like this is so rewarding. I am a Medium in the Bible belt. I will let you think about that statement for a bit.
I wanted community and comfort from people who have been inundated with segregation on many levels. I was an outcast because I was not religious, because I was young, because I had not paid my dues, because I was talking to dead people…it seemed there were so many excuses from so many around me. Why couldn’t I just be me and be accepted?
When I started my company here in Atlanta, I was already a licensed massage therapist in Florida and Nationally Certified, working professionally with Reiki, healings and doing private readings. But Atlanta told me I would need to be fingerprinted, put on a special list with other “touchers” that were not medical in the state of Ga and pay an extra few hundred dollars a year to get a business license. If i remember correctly I politely gave the finger and told them they have my name and address. I refused to be treated less than the work I was providing and walked out the door and told them they could come find me. I later studied to become a Minister so I would have the right to do my work legally and safely.
Once I started to create my path for myself others came to my aid who were like me. There were many of us who had a great awareness of the type of connection and spiritual path we wanted but it was not so easily accessible. I found that sometimes, I need to create what I am looking for and not wait for someone else to do it. That alone can be a hard lesson, I have always been told about a man on a white horse that comes to rescue me. I just had to buck up and decide I needed my own horse……… lol

I am a natural born Medium. I have been providing readings for over 25 years worldwide. I have authored With Love and Light: a true story about an uncommon gift. I opened the doors to Love and Light LLC in 2001. The Jamie Butler Medium brand, products, classes, workshops and private readings are housed here. I love using social media, videos and writing to stay in touch with my Luminaires!! Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My Father has been the biggest supporter of my intuitive abilities. He was the first to speak out about them, encourage me to write a book and to carve out a place for myself. I spent many decades trying to understand who I am or really…..why I am. I read books, studied under Margurette Romeis, Brian Weiss and many others. I went from religion to religion and into non-secular groups and they all have influenced who I am today.
But as a businesswoman, Brian Dyson, former CEO of Coca-Cola, was the one to really showed me the ethics I carry today. Brian taught me how to walk the line between running a business and caring for the clients’ needs. I had a rough time putting myself first and was more than happy to give away my time for free and under charge. Brian saw I had an incredible gift but no belief that it could be a business. He taught me about budgets and self-worth with money but mostly he focused on being honest with self. “Don’t sweat the small stuff, and everything is small stuff, Jamie,” Brian would tell me. I used to get frustrated with this because learning about how to run a solid company was not small stuff to me. It was a huge learning curve. In looking back, I can see how Brian was coaching me to prioritize my own needs first, my family and relationships and not put my business decisions above these. Each day I am grateful for Brian’s guidance.
