Meet Alex Carlton Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Carlton Miller.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I bought my first camera in the summer of 2015. It was between my Junior and Senior years of high school. It was a very basic DSLR (Canon Rebel t5). I shot daily and researched continually. I had also had an interest in menswear for quite sometime before this. By fall of 2015, I had been taking photos of my own personal style with a tripod and my camera as well as taking other photos with the camera in the world that surrounded me at the time. I started posting my work to Instagram. Currently, in 2018, the word “influencer” is a commonly used word and often a title many try to achieve through social media presence.

At the time though, I was just snapping photos of my style and posting. I am not a major menswear influencer even now (as I like to be on both sides of the camera), but at the time I had no clue where what I was doing would take me. Brands started to notice. Several startup menswear companies started sending me product and I would photograph. In 2016, I graduated high school and later that year (in fall) would start college. I was working with more brands as time progressed and I was shooting nonstop. The process has continued until this point (October 2018) and advanced heavily. I am still in college (though I have considered dropping the past) majoring in marketing with a minor in Spanish, recently a founding father of a fraternity on my campus, traveling almost every weekend, and of course, shooting and editing photos and videos.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
People see the job as glamorous. I suppose it depends on the person, but while I have had so many opportunities, I have also made many sacrifices to get where I am today. I do not sleep enough, drink a heavy amount of coffee and espresso, and can become scattered at times with all of the obligations that I take on (both work, school, and life). It is not always (rarely) smooth, but has been well worth all of my efforts. Many people fail because of making excuses or not trying enough. I choose to give it my all.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a 20-year old content creator. I create photos and videos for lifestyle brands. I make stop-motion videos and photos mostly but have done a few longer length video projects. I enjoy the process of connecting with clients and shooting with other photographers/filmmakers. I mostly focus on menswear/fashion realm but have created work for a variety of companies (including some resorts, hotels, and events). I believe the aspect that sets me apart from others is my drive to create something new. I do not limit my work (very rarely). I go the “extra mile” in all situations. For example, I was shooting for a resort in Florida recently when I could not fly my drone due to heavily restricted airspace. So, I rented a helicopter to get aerial footage instead.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved the playgrounds in fast food restaurants.
