Ajaé Moore of Midtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Ajaé Moore and have shared our conversation below.

Ajaé, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
For me, candle making is where time slows down and I find myself again. Working with scents and fragrances is soothing it brings me into the present moment. When I’m blending oils or pouring wax, everything else fades out. It becomes a space where I can lock in with myself, focus on the details, and reconnect with my creativity and peace.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ajaé Moore, and I’m the founder and creative force behind Massajaé a luxury sensory brand where scent, storytelling, and artistry come together. What started as making handcrafted body oils evolved into creating bespoke candles, immersive experiences, and multi-sensory events. My work is rooted in the belief that scent can transport people, shift emotion, and create worlds.

Massajaé is unique because it blends fine fragrance with narrative every candle, collection, and experience is designed to feel like stepping into a scene. I draw inspiration from architecture, mood, texture, and high-end environments, then translate those atmospheres into scent and experience.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my collections, developing cinematic visuals, and curating luxury sensory events that allow people to engage with scent, taste, sound, and emotion in a new way. My goal is to create spaces and products that feel intentional, elevated, and unforgettable and to continue building a brand that lives at the intersection of art and feeling.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother taught me the most about work. She’s strong, hardworking, and deeply professional. From an early age, she instilled in me the importance of being on time because it’s one of the first things people notice about you. She also taught me to stay on top of my business and maintain structure. As I’ve gotten older and grown into entrepreneurship, I see just how valuable those lessons are. Her standards became the foundation of how I move today.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was sad or overwhelmed as a child, singing was my escape. It allowed me to shut out the world and reconnect with myself. When people projected their opinions or tried to tell me who I was, singing became the space where I could shake off that noise and find my center again. It grounded me, gave me freedom, and helped me return to who I really was.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe I had to choose one path, and that committing to a single lane was the only way to succeed. I’ve learned that’s not true. As an artist, we’re allowed to wear many hats and explore different parts of ourselves. Life is short, and creativity isn’t meant to be boxed in. I’ve realized it’s better to throw everything on the canvas, try, experiment, and see what truly resonates. That freedom has shaped my growth and my work.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not exploring all of my gifts and talents while I’m here. Our time on earth is limited, and I feel a responsibility to honor the creativity I’ve been given. I want my work to be experienced, felt, and remembered not just imagined. Fully stepping into everything I’m capable of is something I never want to leave undone.
