Amber White of North Atlanta (Sandy Springs) on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Amber White shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Amber, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I enjoy putting myself first. What that means to me is living for myself & doing things that genuinely make me happy not to please others. I love indulging in self care like taking bubble baths, nature walks and even just wearing a good face mask. I also find joy in trying out different restaurants or exploring activities I have never done before. I prioritize myself now more than ever this keeps me in a happy energy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amber also known as Thee Nail Guru. I am a 757 native however I am currently thriving in Atlanta, GA. I have been a nail tech for 7 years now and my mission is to continue to boost people’s confidence and make them feel like their best self after being serviced by me. I specialize in acrylic nails & toes, nail art and press on nails. My dream is to have my own nail supply store that will be a one stop shop for all beauticians. I stand out from other nail techs because I like to create an organic experience before your service. I pay close attention to my clients wants but I service them based on their needs and inform them on whats best for them at that current time while still giving them what they want. I thrive on seeing the confidence boost people have after their service.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Graduating college definitely shaped how I see the world today. I am a first generation college graduate with a B.S in Political Science. I knew once I walked across that stage I could literally do whatever I wanted to do in life. Specifically what made me happy not what others wanted me to be to fulfill their dreams. A lot of times as young adults we can get caught up in what the elders in our lives say we should be doing and that was me for a while. I did not feel like I had a voice or say in what was going on in my life I was just doing what I was told was right, however, looking back I feel like that was very limiting and I have always been a person to think bigger and better! Graduating exuded my will to focus on my personal needs to grow and I am so happy I went to the illustrious HBCU Virginia State University.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Growing up without my biological mother and father in my life was definitely a defining life wound. I had great support from my grandparents however most people don’t understand nothing will be able to fill the void of the ones who brought you into this world and chose not to be in your life. I feel like one of the biggest things that has helped me heal was moving away from my hometown so I could have my own understanding of what I went through and then getting therapy and help from a professional. I think healing is an ongoing journey so I am not fully healed but I do have a better understanding of how wounds can be used as a stepping stone to grow beyond your short comings you have no control of.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say my personal growth is something that really matters to me. All of my friends know I love to indulge in fun things where I feel free but they also know I prioritize my responsibilities and personal growth is under that list of responsibilities. I always get told by them how proud they are of me for how far I’ve grown and they see that I am constantly working towards more. They always tell me I inspire and motivate them to do more in their own lives as well and that really makes me feel good to know I have become someone people can look up to because God knows I am far from perfect

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I am building a legacy that will be passed down to generations. I am creating a safe space within myself as well as building my business and knowledge of entrepreneurship. I know creating a great business takes time and years however I don’t thrive off of instant gratification I love when things pay off bigger later and it feels so much better knowing I created this by myself for myself and others believed in me enough to help me grow further than I could have imagined.
