An Inspired Chat with brian chandler

brian chandler shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

brian, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I think getting out in nature. I love my phone. I love technology. I wouldn’t be able to work or make music without it. But I think it’s so crucial to step away from it if you can, I always feel refreshed afterwords

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
my name is Brian Chandler, and I am a musician based out of Atlanta Georgia. I explore several different genres of music, but I would say at my core, It is electronic pop. I’ve been making music of some kind since I can remember. I was always drawn to dance music and never planned on singing in any of my own Music. But as I progressed as an artist, I got tired of only hearing instrumentals and didn’t have anyone to sing in my songs so I figured I would just make it work. I think I bring a very unique and true to myself sound to each song I make. I write my own music. I sing my own music and I mix and master my own music. Every song has a very strong concentrate of my creativity. at the end of the day, I am a bedroom artist. I don’t have a fancy studio or equipment. I have a very straightforward approach to making music that is catchy. That’s my primary goal and I feel very proud of what I’ve made so far.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think early on when I started releasing music, I really wanted to try to have a chart topping hit. I couldn’t tell you why but that’s what I wanted. It took me a long time to realize the music I release is also my creative release. so of course I want people to listen to my music and if there’s someone out there that can resonate with the sound I’m making or dance to it, I want them to hear it. But at the end of the day, this creativity is coming from me and I’m not focused on the numbers anymore. If I released a song and only five people listen to it I would be happy because that doesn’t change the fact that that’s my creativity and a lot of times my emotional state in the song. It is an artifact I can go back and listen to. Grow From.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
if you aren’t steering the bus, then someone else is going to steer for you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think it is. I’ve never been a very good actor and I don’t think I’m analytical enough to come up with this complex marketing strategy of what the Internet wants me to be. My public view I think has changed because I’ve changed, but I do think what you see online is the real me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think sometimes my musical sound can change quite a bit. But I release what I feel. I think some people get confused on whether I’m an alternative rock, singer, songwriter or a DJ. Those two options are certainly different but I feel like both. I think people get too fixated on labels. My music is what it is.
