An Inspired Chat with Kimberly Payne of Lawrenceville

Kimberly Payne shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kimberly , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Honestly, just spending more time with family and friends lately has been bringing me a lot of joy. It’s nice to slow down a bit and enjoy the little moments.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Kimberly Payne, the creative force behind Treat Slayer, where I specialize in crafting custom decorative sugar cookies and chocolate covered desserts that are as stunning as they are delicious. Over the years, I’ve become known for turning any theme or occasion into edible art that makes celebrations truly memorable.

What makes Treat Slayer unique is the level of detail that goes into each design. Every cookie is hand-decorated with care, creativity, and a love for making people smile. I’m also excited to share that in the upcoming months, I’ll be introducing decorated cakes to my menu, bringing that same artistic flair to a whole new medium.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I learned the most about work from my parents in very different but equally powerful ways. My mother taught me to approach every task with care and pride, showing that the quality of your work reflects your character. My father believed firmly that if you don’t work, you don’t eat and that nothing in life is handed to you, it’s earned. Together, they gave me a work ethic built on both heart and hustle.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me resilience, empathy, and the value of small joys. Lessons success alone could never give. It showed me that strength isn’t just about winning, it’s about finding the courage to keep going when things feel impossible.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what truly matters to me is loyalty and kindness. Being there for the people I care about and making sure they know how much they mean to me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. Giving my best isn’t about recognition. It’s about honoring my own standards and taking pride in the work I put out, no matter who’s watching.
