We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sarah Segal. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Sarah, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I just released my first music album. The title is ‘Off The Chain’ Edgar Allen Pig & Lil B. My beagle, Boomer Jr. was the inspiration for writing the songs. You can listen to the songs on Spotify, Youtube, Amazon Music, and other music platforms. The songs are about animal liberation and a vegan world where everything is plantbased and peaceful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Edgar Allen Pig is a real pig. He was born a duroc pig which are usually sent to slaughter for human consumption. However, these people rasied Edgar as a mini pig and he was rescued and sent to live at a sanctuary. Once i met Edgar, I started writing songs about him based on real life events. The songs are educational. They depict the reality of what happens to animals who are rasied for food. The goal of these songs is to help humans create a peaceful nation where humans and animals can graze together. A vegan nation is a reality. Follow or journey! Edgar Allen Pig-Petable, not edible.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I was in my friend’s living room. I innocently said, “I love animals so much.” A parent of one of my students said, “well if you love animals so much, then why do you eat them?” That night I went home and started looking up all kinds of articles on animal cruelty. I vowed not to eat animals anymore. I do not want to partcipate in the mass killing of billions of animals unessarily. As my good friend Patty would say, “Peace begins on our Plate.”
My vegan songs are all inspired by eating healthy and defending animals.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to stand up to bullies. They are just jealous, insecure people who want to hurrt others. As a teacher, I do not tolerate bullying of any kind. We must teach and protect children.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Loyalty and honesty are key in any aspect of life. Showing up to support your friends is very important. I cherish friendships and aim to reciprocate mutual love and kindness.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Silent walking meditations at the ocean are where I feel most peaceful Listening to the waves, letting go of any anxieties is beneficial for health and wellness.
