We recently had the chance to connect with Beto Cacao and have shared our conversation below.
Beto, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I’m about to publish my first poetry book
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
“As an ARTIVIST, I honor the sacred heritage of cacao—a gift from the gods to our ancestors, as valuable as gold. My name is Cacao, and like the seed I am named after, I embody the spirit of rebirth and creation, deeply rooted in Mayan and Mexica traditions. Corn, or maize, is also an integral part of my life, symbolizing the natural cycle of life that inspires everything we do. I proudly embrace my indigenous roots, transcending the labels that seek to confine us, and celebrate the vibrant diversity of my community.
I am dedicated to preserving the oral history of the migrant community and Hispanic descendants in the USA. My experiences, told through music and poetry, uplift and preserve the stories of my culture and people. I create spaces where we can confront life’s hardest truths with courage, laughter, and the warmth of shared moments. My mission extends beyond mere preservation; I strive to empower others to sing their own stories and preserve their histories through the art of music and poetry, fostering a legacy that transcends generations. Down to earth and natural, my pieces reflect the enduring connection to the land and the timeless wisdom of our ancestors.”
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was lost, immerse in mi self reflection of I lost and what I didn’t achive
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Many times in my life I felt that nothing is worth. That everything was to difficult. I remembers one day I was crying for not reason and that felt normal. Today I understand that, that moment was necessary to find my own way. Today I see my self crying but not giving up.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The industry sell you the idea that the mos important thing in life is to be a winner. They make you think there is only winner and looser in this life. Then they sell you a pill, they give you the answer. But life come in small pieces and what we know as winning, that is when you finish your task, when you reach out the other side of your challenge and it dose not matter if you arrive first on last, because there is an other dream you have to follow. Most important that winning is to be happy, to take a moment and fill proud of your self for what you just achieve, take a deep bread, close your eyes and dream form a moment, only there you can start walking to your new dream. In the way you’ll define the goal and your strategy, but make sure you be thankful for those walking next to you.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will talk about my poetry, my songs. Everything I have done with my hands and each organization I have founded and why not, about my mistakes, because I only learn from my mistakes. I don’t know if some will remember me, but I hope one day some one recite a poem of mine, like it was its own poem, not matter if they know who I was.
