Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Rego.
Barbara, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Hey there friends! I’m a Mixed Media Artist originally from a military town outside of Savannah, Georgia. I have been living in Atlanta for the past seven years, and I couldn’t be more proud to say that this city has developed me into the artist I am today. I started my creative career as a Videographer in high school when I discovered unveiling a person’s story through a lens is something that fascinated me. Through the years, I continued to push and educate myself as an artist and picked up graphic design along the way. Most people know me on social media for my collage designs. Making collages went from a small passion project two years ago to a full-time job, and I couldn’t be more grateful to get to create for a living. I’m constantly fueled by both of my video and graphics projects, and I have had the privilege to collaborate with talented people in the Atlanta community and around the world who share the same passion for “making stuff” as I do.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a full-time Videographer and Graphic Designer. Making videos has always been my first love, and I don’t see myself ever straying away from this art. For the most part, I produce, film and edit all of my video work. These videos range from branded social media clips to music videos to weddings to celebrity recaps. Every shoot of mine is different, and I enjoy being able to adapt to my diverse clientele’s wants and needs.
As mentioned, most people know me for my collage designs on social media under my handle “mindofbarbara.” I made my first collage in January 2017 when I was creating a vision board for the new year. I shared this with my followers on Instagram, and after receiving such a positive response, I decided to play around with these cut out elements and find a style I was excited to show off. I eventually found a niche in this craft, and it’s been one of the best things that have happened to me. To be honest, collages were another way for me to stay creative. I have been very fortunate to turn this hobby into something bigger alongside video, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities I have had. A lot of my inspiration comes from some of my favorite musicians and my perspective on their music.
I want people to know through my work that there are no rules when it comes to art. Create whatever you’re feeling in that moment and please try to challenge yourself to add a little more to your piece even when you think it might be done.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I feel like there are still a lot of people who aren’t in this field that don’t understand the value, talent and time of our crafts. I see a lot of my friend’s who are artists posting on this topic. It can be frustrating when people want your work but don’t think your piece is worth that extra penny we believe it should be.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can view most of my work on my Instagram feed @mindofbarbara. I share any time I’ll be showing artwork, and I’m open for commission if you’re interested in getting a custom design. Let’s create some chaos together!
