Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Callahan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a believer, and follower of Jesus Christ, I wanted to offer people counseling from a Christian worldview. I believe that all truth is God‘s truth, and that it comes from multiple disciplines and validated through scripture itself. The foundational truth as I work with clients is the belief that every single human being is made in the image of God with profound value, purpose, and destiny. I believe that each person has their mark to make on the world. As they know
they’re true identity, and they operate from that place of unique value, the rest of the world is better and benefits. Whether clients believe my world view or not, I counsel them with their great value in my approach. This becomes one of the greatest building blocks in my philosophy and treatment. As people are treated with high value they begin to believe, feel and operate with high value for themselves.
Through my counseling journey of over 35 years, I have experienced a lot of joy as I have seen many people set free from anxiety, depression, and debilitating habits that destroy relationships. When I can be a part of that healing process
there really is no “greater high”.
I received my training from Ridgemont University where I received my Master’s in Counseling Psychology. My degree is the integration of theology and psychology.
I have been in private practice counseling individuals, adolescents, and couples in premarital and marriage counseling throughout my 35 year career.
After counseling for so many years, I feel confident and adequate to walk-through most situations with people to lead them to higher ground and deeper healing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started meeting with clients in my early ‘20s, it was very challenging as I was young, naïve, and inexperienced. As I continued to work with people, grow in my own personal life experiences, with continued professional training my expertise grew. Now 35 years later, I feel very confident in my ability to help people.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My specialty is working with women of all ages. I think that women have a unique set of issues that I have learned to understand and bring, hope and healing. I offer a unique amount of empathy, kindness, and appreciation to all my clients. I think that environment alone brings healing. I believe that must be present before any additional healing takes place. I validate the courage in each client that comes to me for counseling . It takes profound courage to look inside, to face your vulnerabilities, and then reach out for help. I tell my client’s that they are so “ahead of the curve” as they are courageous to seek help to be their best self.
