Today we’d like to introduce you to TribeChiefTony.
Hi TribeChiefTony, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started off as a kid watching music videos in the living room seeing bow wow rapping on tv as a kid himself and was instantly inspired in the idea of being an artist. Even though bow wow was the main reason I wanted to rap it wasn’t because I liked his music honestly I felt I could do better. He just sparked the idea. From then I wanted to be in that position but didn’t know how to do it years later, I found artists like Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Meek Mill (back when he battle rapped), and Nas that really upgraded my taste my standard for having bars in music. Once I knew how to word my songs, I started writing remixes of popular songs and post them on YouTube for my school (and the world) to hear under the rap name “Lil ant”. My whole middle school knew I could rap and even had a cypher in the bathroom during lunch that brought the whole four tables worth of people around us in the cafeteria even in high school under my newer rap name “TribeChief Antonio” it was the same but with rap battles which I prepared for the night before to make sure I’d win which had people coming up to my friends trying to join my collective group “Tribe”.
Once I graduated, I changed my name once again to make it shorter “TribeChiefTony” and started shooting videos to showcase my craft with visuals and got signed up with Distrokid to release music and things went up from there.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way? It’s as smooth as you want it to be honest but there’s also no gain without the pain cause There are things you just have to go through on the way to that next level. I’ve been scammed by marketing companies, friends scammed for features, long nights submitting to blogs, influencers and even music supervisors, and all the no’s and ignores I get along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an independent artist, I do mostly rap and on some songs I sing, I’m known for always smoking and I think what sets me apart from everyone else is I actually put double entendres all throughout my music you just have to catch em, it’s something I got from Nas and Jay Z, I think I’m most proud of my ability to make music in the time that I do. I’ll usually have a song done within the hour the beat is played including mixing and writing time.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my music put a smile or any expression on their face when they hear it cause it’s the reason I made the song.
