Check Out Diamond Owens’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Owens.

Hi Diamond, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into lawn care definitely wasn’t something I planned. At the time, Drake was mowing lawns through a lawn service platform and hauling equipment in the back of our Chevy Trailblazer because we didn’t yet have a truck or trailer. He was trying to grow the work into a real business, but after a few unsuccessful attempts to get family members to join him, I realized I could step in and help.

The funny part is that I was probably the least likely person to end up in lawn care. I was pursuing a modeling career at the time and I’m actually allergic to grass, so working outside in lawns was completely outside of my comfort zone. But my love for Drake pushed me to give it a try, and before long we were working side by side.

We spent about three years building experience together before eventually starting our own lawn care business. During that time, we began noticing that many seniors in our area were being taken advantage of by lawn crews. Some homeowners couldn’t easily walk outside to check the work being done, and we saw firsthand how often corners were being cut. That’s when we decided to create a “Nominate Your Neighbor” program where community members could nominate someone who needed help. Each week we would choose a neighbor and provide free lawn care.

What started as a small act of service quickly turned into something much bigger. Neighbors began nominating not only homeowners but also public spaces in the community, and the movement really began to grow across the Atlanta area.

As our journey evolved, so did my role. I had started out helping Drake more as an assistant, but over time I became his partner both in the business and in the field. That experience ultimately inspired me to create Lawn Bae — a platform where I share the journey from my perspective and highlight what it looks like for a woman to step into outdoor work and claim space in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Today, Lawn Bae has grown into a platform that celebrates community work, encourages more women to feel confident picking up tools, and shares the real behind-the-scenes journey of building something meaningful alongside the person you love. Drake Lawn Care continues to power the community mission behind much of that work, allowing us to reach homeowners across the Atlanta area and inspire others to step up and help their neighbors too.

Drake and I have now been together for nearly nine years and recently got engaged, so this work really reflects both our partnership in life and in business. Looking back, it’s incredible to see how something that started with used equipment in the back of a beat-up SUV and a desire to help neighbors has grown into a movement that brings people together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge along the way has shaped who we are today. Looking back, this entire journey feels like an example of God’s grace and mercy.

I left college at 19 and moved to a new city on my own with big dreams but very little direction. My late grandfather was an entrepreneur, and I like to think I inherited some of his instincts and drive. But having the hustle to mow lawns and knowing how to turn that hustle into a legitimate business were two very different things. In the early days, I didn’t understand things like credit, capital, or how important those tools are when building a business. We didn’t have savings to fall back on either, so a lot of the growth came through trial, error, and learning as we went.

Our relationship also faced its own challenges as we navigated working together every single day. Running a business with the person you love can bring a lot of pressure, and there were moments where business disagreements followed us home. At one point we even brought my grandmother onto the team to help relieve some of my responsibilities so we could protect our relationship and give my man his lady back. Looking back now, that decision probably saved both our business and our relationship.

One of the most difficult moments we faced came in 2025 when our trailer and all of our equipment were stolen on the first day of spring. That day was devastating. Losing everything we had worked so hard to build felt like an almost irrecoverable blow, but the support from our community helped us keep going and reminded us why we started in the first place.

There are also challenges that come with working in a field that is still largely male-dominated. The physical work itself has never been the hardest part for me. What can be more difficult is getting people to realize that a woman is just as capable of working outdoors and contributing equally in this space. That’s something I’ve grown passionate about changing.

Of course, there are lighter challenges too — like figuring out how to stay hydrated in the heat while working long days outside when there isn’t always a convenient restroom nearby. But even those moments have become part of the story.

At the end of the day, none of it has been easy, but I wouldn’t change this journey for anything. Every obstacle has strengthened our faith, our relationship, and our commitment to serving the community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The question of what I do has a lot of answers. I’m a content creator, business owner, community advocate, and a change maker. At my core, I’m simply a young woman looking to make a difference using learned skills and a social platform that has truly been built brick by brick.

I specialize in overgrown lawn transformations — the kind where the yard might be the worst one on the block when we arrive, and by the time we leave it becomes one of the most beautiful. Through that work, we’ve been able to help homeowners facing code violations, restore pride in their homes, and bring communities together in the process.

I’m also known for sharing relatable content about working in the trades. Through my Lawn Bae platform, I show my perspective as a woman working in lawn care and landscaping, an industry where women are still rarely seen in the field. My goal is to bridge beauty, wellness, and landscaping together — creating a space that feels both empowering and a little “bright lifestyle chic.”

What I’m most proud of is the impact we’ve been able to make together. We built our business from scratch with no outside funding and have since helped countless homeowners avoid code fines and violations. Along the way, we’ve also built a community of nearly 100,000 supporters online who watch, encourage us, and even nominate neighbors who need help. It’s incredible to see people from all over the world cheering for something that started right here in our community.

What truly sets me apart, though, is my heart. I genuinely believe in treating people the way you want to be treated. My mom had one rule growing up — she called it the Golden Rule — and it’s something I still carry with me to this day. Whether it’s in person or online, I try to give people the same kindness and respect I hope to receive in return.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
If I had to choose one quality that has played the biggest role in my success, I would say tenacity.

This journey has required a willingness to keep moving forward even when things weren’t easy or clear. When we started, we didn’t have much. We were young, naive, and broke. We had no blueprint for how to turn a small hustle into a real business. Much of what we’ve built came from learning as we went, making mistakes, and choosing not to give up when challenges came our way.

There were moments where things could have easily gone the other direction — like when our equipment was stolen, or when we experienced deep personal loss within our families in the same year, leaving us grieving and unsure about the future. In those moments, the only option was to stay committed and keep pushing forward.

I’ve also had to be tenacious in carving out space for myself in an industry where women are still underrepresented. There were plenty of times when people were surprised to see me working in the field, but instead of letting that discourage me, it motivated me to keep showing up and doing the work.

My faith has also played a huge role in that persistence. It reminds me to trust the process and keep moving forward even when the path ahead isn’t completely clear.

Tenacity, paired with faith, has allowed me to keep building through uncertainty, and it’s the same mindset that continues to guide the mission behind Lawn Bae and the community work we do today.
