Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianna Jefferson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a 20-year-old from Stone Mountain, Georgia, which is 30 minutes outside of Atlanta. Being the only child growing up with both of my parents forced me to discover a lot about myself, including what I wanted to achieve, what I wanted to accomplish, and what I simply loved doing. Because I wasn’t like everyone else, I always stood out from the crowd and was constantly hard on myself. I made the decision to look at how I was unique in a positive context rather than making comparisons to others. Due to the creative abilities I possessed as a child, I realized I could start my own business. I had no choice but to take the risk. As I became older, I’ve had the opportunity to try more cosmetics, lip gloss, and facial care regimens. My obsession with lashes dates back to middle school. You know, girl, if you know. Ladies, lashes are your best friend, okay! They have remained a constant in my life ever since, sticking to me no matter what.
After high school, I got accepted to my beloved HBCU, Alabama State University, where I study Biology Pre-Med. I made the decision that I wanted to pursue a profession in medical cosmetics or as a dermatology nurse. After settling down in college, I really got the inspiration to launch a business selling strip lashes. I wanted to make a reputation for myself in the meantime in school with something I loved. I wanted people to feel the same way about theirs because I’ve always gotten acknowledged when I wear my lash strips because they always seem like lash extensions. It was challenging for me to start off with it as a college student since, of course, classes come first and there isn’t much money, especially if you don’t work. Additionally, it took me months to even begin looking for an excellent quality lash vendor.
During my first spring semester of college, I eventually discovered a fantastic lash vendor that suited my requirements. I was able to make a terrific investment with the help of funds from my return college check. Before I knew it, my business OUTLASHEDBYDIA began operations on May 22, 2022. Since then, I have achieved and met my business’s goals. I have gained over 450 customers and shipped packages out to 21 different states. I kept growing my business by offering new styles in a range of 13mm to 25mm, as well as providing hand-made customized lash strips. I gave my business a lot of consideration before deciding that the titles of my lash styles, my website, and my content should all have significance. Each style is named with the letter “D” because my name is Dianna. In honor of my late grandmother, Deaconess Daisy Hall, the style “Daisy” was created. In honor of my great-niece Denver Rae Davis, the lash-style “Denver” was named after her. I gave every aspect a lot of attention and continued to perform admirably. I can’t keep telling myself this is a blessing. I’m thankful that God gave me the inspiration to do this and will keep working harder every day to achieve my goals. Even when things in my business were difficult, I never gave up; in fact, it made me stronger.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it hasn’t been an easy road with my lash business. In spite of the impression that some individuals give, managing any kind of business is not at all simple. The ups and downs that come with running a business are your responsibility to handle and get through. You persevere if you’re committed to finishing or starting anything. From your experiences and journey, you may develop and learn. When the best things happen, you must always remain modest and keep your head up no matter what, as my experience with my lash business showed me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Despite being an entrepreneur, I am also a student, a sister, a friend, a daughter, and a member of a sorority. I’m an Alabama State University Biology Pre-Med student right now. I recently got hired as a medical spa’s trainee receptionist/esthetician while I’m home from school. Even though it’s challenging, I’m proud to keep pushing myself and making objectives. I don’t have to follow anybody else’s aims or aspirations; I do things my way, which makes me unique from other people.
The fact that it can seem like a lot, I am able to balance everything out. Trust and believe.
Since Instagram and TikTok are my two major channels for promoting my lash business, I’m constantly thinking of new methods to expand it by absorbing advice from other business owners. In order to better serve their requirements, I’m learning to understand what my clients and customers like. I continually modify my strategy so that people may understand what OUTLASHEDBYDIA is actually about.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My early success was mostly a result of my dedication. I kept going and never abandoned the concept for my lash business. Having the desire helped me stay focused and motivated throughout the entire amount of time I invested in my business.
