Today we’d like to introduce you to KillEm KaStilano.

KillEm, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started freestyling young in elementary school. Daily we were reciting raps from the likes of Nas, Craig Mac, 2Pac and others. That really inspired me to actually writing down my raps in middle school and even recording them on a karaoke machine. Me and my friends Stocks and Lama would sharpen our skills as much as we could! By the time I was 16 my basketball dreams had died out and I began taking rap seriously. Fast foward I’ve been able to perform on many stages in Philly, New York and the DMV. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many dope artist and producers from all over the world. I’m talking Africa, Russia, United Kingdom and more. I’ve released over 20 bodies of work to date all independently for the most part. My confidence, consistency and communicating/networking has gotten me this far.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a roller coaster ride with many ups and downs. I can go on for days, but some of the struggles I would mention is the overall misconception of the industry. I learned that it is majority business with less importance being put on the talent. Coming up I always thought it was the other way around. I was ignorant to a lot of things. I really just wanted to be the best at what it is I did. The favoritism, clickiness, gatekeeping and everything being about money was/is discouraging. From promoters, managers, producers to Dj’s not believing in me but willing to take my money. That was a tough pill to swallow! Only 2 people I would’ve let manage me that I actually believe they believed in me. I would’ve honestly trusted them with the task. Unfortunately, 1 passed away (Rest In Peace Wali) and the other is Foggy Lenz whom I still work with to date. At that time I wasn’t willing to play the game to look and dress the part. Most importantly I couldn’t be somebody I wasn’t. It was challenging navigating through it at and at certain points it became a real struggle. Often times I wanted to give up feeling it was no longer worth it. Ultimately, I kept creating and pushing forward regardless as the only person who can stop me is me!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a 1 of a kind authentic artist with an original unique sound and style. I paint vivid pictures with storytelling using my life experiences. Touching the hearts of men and speaking to people’s souls as many feel where I’m coming from. I do what I like to call reality rap. I don’t cater nor try to mimic others. There’s a line on my song (KillEm Talk) off the Best of KillEm 3: The Redemption were I say “naw I ain’t tryn fit in really I wanna stand out” which is my truth.
