Check Out Leylismr. Visual Artist’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leylismr. Visual Artist

Hi LeylisMR., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey as a visual artist began in the vibrant landscapes of Peru, where the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty served as my first inspirations. Growing up surrounded by traditional art forms, I found myself drawn to the colors and textures that told stories of local people and life experiences. It was this foundation that ignited my passion for creating art. I spent countless hours experimenting with different mediums, from painting to sculpture, always seeking to express my personal identity and people’s experiences.

When I moved to Atlanta, I encountered a new world of artistic possibilities. The city’s dynamic art scene welcomed me with open arms, allowing me to connect with other artists and share my work’s voice with diverse artistic expressions. I had to navigate a different culture… However, this experience also opened doors for collaboration.

In Atlanta, I found inspiration in the diverse community around me. It allowed me to blend my Peruvian roots with contemporary influences. Today, my work reflects this fusion—each piece is an exploration of identity, culture, emotions, and belonging. My story is one of resilience and creativity… a testament to how art can transcend human connections and bring people together through shared experiences.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Transitioning from one culture to another brings a unique set of challenges, particularly in the realm of artistic expression. Initially, the struggle was rooted in adapting to a new environment that often felt foreign and overwhelming. The vibrant art scene in Atlanta is rich and diverse, yet it can be daunting for someone trying to carve out their own. The need to network, seek out opportunities for exhibitions, and gain visibility can be daunting for any artist but especially challenging for someone navigating an unfamiliar city.

Despite all these, each experience has contributed to growth and resilience. The experience of melding two different cultural influences has enriched my work, allowing for a unique voice that resonates within both communities. This journey reflects not just personal evolution but also the broader narrative of artists who bravely navigate change while remaining true to their voice.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a visual artist, my work dives deep into the intricate panoramas of human emotions and the often-unspoken aspects of our inner selves. I specialize in capturing the essence of what it means to be human in today’s fast-paced world, exploring the emotions that often remain unspoken. In an era where expressing our feelings can feel daunting, I strive to bring those hidden sentiments to the forefront through my art. My specialization lies in capturing the essence of these complex emotions—joy, sorrow, anxiety, and love connected to our past, present, and future timeline—transforming them into visual narratives that resonate deeply with viewers.

What sets me apart from other artists is my unique approach to color. I employ an original and diverse palette that reflects not only the themes I explore but also evokes a visceral response through the nuances of human emotion. Each hue is carefully chosen not just for its aesthetic appeal but for its ability to evoke specific feelings and thoughts within the observer. This distinctive use of color, lines, an compositional elements allow me to create pieces that are not only visually striking but also profoundly impactful, inviting viewers into a deeper understanding of their own feelings.

I take immense pride in my ability to connect with others through my art. Knowing that my work resonates with individuals on such a profound level is incredibly fulfilling. It serves as a mirror for others’ experiences that bring and motivates me to continue exploring these themes even before my origin as a visual artist.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Many may not realize that I spend hours researching the themes and concepts I want to explore in my artwork. This often leads me down fascinating rabbit holes of history, culture, and personal experiences that shape the final piece.

Additionally, I find solace in writing poetry and prose as a means of expressing thoughts that sometimes elude visual representation. This duality enriches my artistic practice, allowing me to weave together words and visuals in ways that resonate on multiple levels.

I find immense inspiration in quiet moments by simply observing while feeling the world around me. This juxtaposition between the lively expression of my artwork, the world and its inhabitants; and the serene introspection of my personal life forms a crucial part of my artistic process.
