Check Out Matt Cassanova’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Cassanova.

Hi Matt, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Matt Cassanova aka Ghetto Guitar. I’m a producer for the playmakers and a self-taught guitarist from West Haven, CT. I started making youtube covers and guitar remixes to get my name out there. My Chief Keef guitar remixes “I don’t like, and Love Sosa” caught the attention of many people including producer Young Chop and Chief Keef himself. From there, I was asked to send guitar samples where I landed my first placement with Wiz Khalifa titled “Got Me Some More” From then, I started performing live while also working with other producers to build my resume but it wasn’t until 2018 where my life changed.

I came across Gunnas DS3 project and became a huge fan of the sound him and Turbo were creating. While in Connecticut, I reached out Turbo via IG DM believing I could bring something to the table with my guitar playing and the first song we made was the well-known song “Sold Out Dates” that recently went platinum.

If it wasn’t for Turbo, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. He flew me out to ATL for the first time and I was adopted into the Playmaker family. We continued to produce more songs and I quickly went on my first tour with Gunna for his drip or drown two albums along with multiple rolling louds and overseas festivals.

After covid slowed down, I finally decided to officially move to ATL to further pursue my career as an artist, producer, and a performer.

Since then, I have performed on Jimmy Kimmel with Morray, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers with ATL artist Latto and co-produced dropping jewels on Young Thugs number one album “punk” with Turbo.

I’m currently working on my next instrumental album as well as a guitar sample pack for producers that want to take their creativity to the next level.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has had its ups and downs. I think starting off the hardest thing for me was how to make a living off of music. For a while I worked regular jobs to fund my music career. It wasn’t until 2018 where I was free from that.

Being a guitarist, it was difficult to get heard so I had to create my own lane by creating youtube videos and instrumental albums to showcase my talents.

Sometimes just getting over that anxiety before a performance would also be a struggle but it always felt as if I leveled up after I completed any show I did.

I’ve lived in CT all my life so as of now just being away from my family back at home but all the adjustments and everything that has happened so far has been well worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a self-taught guitarist with a background in rock music while also adding different melodies which I believe separates my playstyle from a lot of others. I call my genre “Trill Rock” Everything I play is by ear, so I like to say no show would ever be the same. I like to bring the energy that rock musicians bring to the rap shows to give the audience the ultimate experience to jump around or to slow it down give them something soulful and melodic they can feel throughout their body.

I’m most known for being the guitarist and co-prod of notable ATL artists Gunna and Lil Baby “Sold Out Dates” along with Gunna Richard Millie Plain, Outstanding, Big Shot, Belly, Young Thug Dropping Jewels and more.

I’m honestly most proud of that record (sold-out dates) as it’s the one that changed my life forever and I’m forever grateful to everyone that played and supported this record. Being from Connecticut and to receive that love here in ATL is something I would’ve never imagined. Yall make me feel at home.

I’m just looking to push music in a new direction and be a trailblazer like Hendrix was.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I’m an only child and thankfully I stayed fairly close to my cousins. Having the opportunity to spend time with them and just get into all types of things would probably be one of my favorite childhood memories.
