Check Out Ms. Melody Monroe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ms. Melody Monroe.

Hi Ms. Melody, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my early beginnings as a musician in school and church. I started writing songs at 9 years old after participating in a summer camp talent show. I was a part of chorus and band in middle and high school. At church, I played piano and eventually ended up leading the music department. Later, in college, I studied voice and was trained classically. During college, I released several mixtapes which started my journey as an independent artist. Since then, I have been growing my music brand and releasing music over the years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my biggest challenges as an indie musician have been just not having the resources to bring my visions to life and mostly other people not believing in me as much as I believe in myself. Don’t get me wrong, I get a lot of support, but over the years, there have been folks who have tried to put limitations on me for various reasons whether it’s because I’m black, female, indie, etc. To be honest, I had to overcome a lot of self-doubt as well and it’s been a journey really getting to a place of understanding my gifts and talents, the value I bring to the music space, and my core identity as an artist in a way that allows me to take up space with full confidence.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an independent hip-hop soul artist. I am also a songwriter and producer. My mission as an artist is to promote a message of truth, light, and love. For me, that means authenticity, consciousness, and an overall push for good in the world. As an artist, I am mostly known for rapping and singing skillful lyrics with a smooth and soulful delivery.

As a songwriter and producer, I write for other artists, tv/film, and business brands. I specialize in creating custom music for projects in an array of genres while always maintaining the integrity of an authentic sound.

I’ve written and performed with notable artists, worked with Grammy-nominated teams, and had my music played on radio stations around the world.

I’m really proud of the work I’ve done so far and how it’s impacted people’s lives, but I’m most proud of the way I haven’t given up and shown up for myself throughout my journey. Sharing my high’s and low’s with people is what I feel has helped to inspire them the most and I’m looking forward to inspiring more people as I continue to grow my platform and reach.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I have used and been a big fan of the Passion Planner for many years. It’s a planner designed to help you identify your dreams and build toward them every day. It has blank pages for creativity, a gratitude journal, and leaves room for reflection so I’ve found it to be very helpful in keeping me focused and jotting down creative ideas (Here’s $15 from me if you want to try it: http://rwrd.io/daatlvl?c).

Beyond that, I use my voice recorder and notes apps religiously to record and write down song ideas.
