Today we’d like to introduce you to Kie Gordon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After five years of contemplation and professional procrastination, I finally started my blogging journey in September 2020. I started it fearful and with no plan in mind, but was determined to push past my doubts and to start somewhere. Fifteen of my closest friends and family started to follow the journey and cheer me on.
They read all of my blog posts, liked all of my pictures on Instagram and provided me with great feedback. While this venture has been difficult, I am still growing and learning. I am grateful for the community of people who continue to support me and remind me that I am doing a great job, even when I don’t feel like I am. I now have a ton of ideas written in my blogging journal. I have also been thinking about branching out even more by creating a vlog to connect my words with my presence.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been a smooth road at all. I have mentally quit at least five times in the short time that I’ve been creating. Starting something new is hard and takes true patience, which I am still learning how to do. I have a huge vision for this platform and when I don’t see the results immediately, I feel as though I am not doing something right. Overall, I am still here, still pushing, and still creating. Even though there are challenges, I really enjoy documenting my process and experiences. Blogging/Vlogging has become a great way for me to step out of my comfort zone and pay more attention to the things I enjoy most in life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
(Cues celebration music) I am a recent 2021 graduate student, obtaining a Masters degree in School Counseling. For the past few years, I have been researching and studying the full realm of the human mind. The graduate program has really taught me how to better serve myself and others holistically. I am currently a middle school counselor and I also plan to open my own private practice in sex therapy in the future. I am most proud of finishing grad school because the journey to the end was not easy, as with every journey. I left a full-time, salary-paying job to pursue the career of my purpose. I am so happy that I made this decision and excited to share more of my experience and expertise with others.
Along with my counseling work, I also aspire to be a business owner. I am in the process of planning and solidifying the foundation. More info to come! 🙂
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have been blessed with the opportunity to meet some really great people. Prior to being in school, I did not have the space or time to network with others often and felt as though it was difficult to genuinely connect at times. I currently have two mentors that continue to provide professional and personal wisdom and I am forever grateful for them. I would say, if there is someone who influences you or who you feel understands your journey, I would absolutely ask them for mentorship. Remaining open to connection has really helped me to network with people and gain life-long relationships, whether professional or social.
